Lamar County doing away with indigent care
Indigent health care no more

By Mary Madewell
The Paris News

Published May 11, 2005

Lamar County’s indigent health care coffer is almost bare with no state guarantee of supplemental funding after this month.

>>>>>>snip
As early as January, Fults began dire predictions, informing commissioners that she anticipated the county would exceed the state mandated indigent health care care obligation of eight percent of total revenue. That total is $684,775 for the current year.

“I was told the state could not guarantee the 90 percent match after May,” Fults said. “There may be more funds available closer to the end of the year from other counties, but we have no guarantee.”

2. Right up there w/ Collin County...
Collin County sets it's indigent cut off at $2000/year..yes, year..it's not a typo, unfortunately. Anyone making more than that is not considered poor enough for medical bill help. The people end up going to Dallas County's Parkland and then Collin County gives Parkland the finger, telling them the patients are not indigent by Collin's "definiton".
There was a comparison in the paper not too long ago how the county is going to be spending more on an animal shelter than they will on indigent medical care. Stupid county officials. Here's hoping their bad karma catches up to them at some point.
