More than half of the Texas House has signed on as co-authors of legislation that would curtail the use of anonymous corporate or union money for ads targeting candidates in the final weeks of a campaign.

"If we can ever get the bill to the floor, it ought to pass," said Rep. Craig Eiland, D-Galveston, one of the authors.

Eighty-six House members are co-authors of House Bill 1348, which addresses the issues at the heart of a two-year criminal investigation and several lawsuits arising from the 2002 legislative campaigns.
