Kinkster in Houston tomorrow, Friday the 25th
Edited on Thu Mar-24-05 01:26 PM by PDittie
Kinky Friedman, the erstwhile novelist/musician/2006 Texas gubernatorial candidate will sign & discuss his novel Ten Little New Yorkers on Friday, March 25th at Murder By The Book (2342 Bissonnet, Houston TX 77005, 713-524-8597 or (888) 4-AGATHA).

"The professionals gave us the Titanic, amateurs gave us the Ark. Career politicians are ribbon cutters. They see the governor's office as a job; I see it as an opportunity to make that Lone Star shine again. I'm an Independent, which is the party of George Washington, Teddy Roosevelt, Sam Houston, and Davy Crockett."

edit: 6 pm.

1. I love Kinky, but his grasp of history is a little faulty....
Davy Crockett and Sam Houston were both Jeffersonian Democrats and held elective office as such. And TR, though he later became an Independant, served his 7 years as president under the banner of the Republican party.

2. Yes, he's nuts
but that never disqualified anyone from public office.

Especially in Texas.

3. I hope the new book is better than 'Prisoner of Vandam Street'
That one bit down HARD. x(

Best part of Kinky's candidacy: the motto. "How hard can it be?"

8. Davy was a favorite of the Whigs
because of his opposition to Andrew Jackson's policies. He was defeated in his final election by the Shelby democrats in Tennessee, prompting his famous:

"you all can go to hell, I'm going to Texas."

9. Gotta Love The Venue
Murder By The Book is one of Houston's honest-to-God treasures, particularly if you're a murder mystery buff; I hope a lot of people turned out for Kinky---who still has my vote for governor......
