Dallas: Party to Welcome AAR! Monday, March 21st
Stop by after work! We'll get going around 6:30 or so.

The Fox & Hound English Pub & Grill
Dallas/Skillman Road
10051 Whitehurst Drive, Suite 100
Dallas, TX 75243
Phone: (214) 340-4300
Event Coordinator: Mandy Shing

They have an upstairs room (the Mezzanine) that will accomodate roughly 60 people and will allow us to play the radio station. We'll also be able to play pool, darts etc. and talk apart from the rest of the establishment, (although they are not technically blocking it off so we won't have to pay a fee, it is doubtful that people will want to come up there since there should be ample room downstairs on a Monday night). They will handle individual checks for food
and drinks.

The location is near 635 and Skillman. Here are the Mapquest instructions from that intersection:

1: Start out going EAST on I-635 E. 3.0 miles

2: Take the SKILLMAN ST exit- EXIT 16- toward AUDELIA
RD. 0.2 miles

3: Turn RIGHT onto SKILLMAN ST/AUDELIA RD. 0.1 miles
Map

4: Turn RIGHT onto WHITEHURST DR. <0.1 miles

5: End at 10051 Whitehurst Dr, Dallas, TX 75243-0636

1. Very cool!
The two of us are still under the weather, but if we're well enough on Monday, we might be able to come on down to the pub. Thanks for the info!

9. It was on Dallas' AAR radio station...
sorry, didn't mean to make you think it was the local TV news. The radio segment was when the party was going on...like around 7:30 or 8 pm.

8. PICTURES!!
Yep, crispini and I took a few at the party tonight in case you weren't able to show up:

Signs at the KXEB welcome party at The Fox & Hound

Picture of Air America listeners from Dallas, Plano, Denton, etc. - lots of folks; I lost count after 35

An unexpected treat - Deborah Angell Smith, Collin County Democratic Party Chair, places a conference call to Janeane Garofalo and Sam Seder on The Majority Report for all of us to greet America Texas-style

derby378 auctions off one of the only two KXEB Randi Rhodes stickers printed so far; the sticker fetched a whopping $30, which went to the Dallas Peace Center (a worthy cause) via Hadi Jawad

A shot of crispini, whose petition helped bring Air America to North Texas at long last

An executive from Border Media, which owns KXEB, also showed up to express his appreciation for our support. Nancy Cunningham of the Air America Meetup for our area also came with a few more stickers for me to auction. Lots of folks, and I apologize that I couldn't stay and meet everyone. I think the party was a success!!

11. It WAS pretty exciting
Had to bug out early because ginbarn and I are still ill, so I hope everyone else enjoyed themselves.

Only one drawback - I never got my order of fish and chips! Wah! I had to get my supper from a Wendy's drive-thru. But I know the Fox & Hound staff had their hands full last night, so it's OK.

12. Great pictures!
Nice to know I can get sane radio next time I'm up yonder!

I haven't driven north from Austin listening to AAR, but I can pick it up from Austin south all the way to San Marcos, even at night! :bounce:

13. Thanks!
It feels so good waking up to Morning Sedition on the clock radio. And yes, you need to come up to Dallas sometime - maybe ginbarn and I can rendezvous with you for burgers or Tex-Mex!

14. Excellent
Glad to see you had fun and raised some money for a good cause as well.
Way to go everyone!

I heard Janeane welcome Dallas, but I missed the call you made. Congratulations on the launch. Welcome to the sane talk show radio markets of Texas.

Just thought I'd better reiterate that in case nobody else brought it up. And thanks for the sticker praise.

Any other fun stuff happen after I left?

Edited on Tue Mar-22-05 10:52 PM by aQuArius
If I hadn't been so farking sick (like I still am)... I would've come to the party! I am already addicted to AAR, I can only get it in my car and find myself still listening for several minutes after I park my car.

21. Yet another reason to be pissed off at Dallas!
The first time I was pissed off was when "The Jacksons" did their tour and chose Dallas over Houston. I couldn't believe it. They eventually came months later but still, it pissed me off that they would choose Dallas over Houston. They're more hick than we are.

And now this, AAR starts up in Dallas before Houston.#*+&%$#@!!

(just kidding) Congrats Dallas!

22. And here's yet another reason why Dallas needs AAR
(Excerpted from Randi Rhodes 5/27/04 broadcast, for all you newcomers:)

And, we are experiencing - hold on to your panties; this is amazing - a bullet shortage. Is that amazing to you? Holy crap, that was in the Financial Times, no less. The Financial Times says: "The United States asks private groups to ease bullet shortage." Bullet shortage! "The US Army cannot fight a war without its most basic necessity - bullets!" Oh my God!

Well, I, I wanna make it, you know, uh, being a liberal, I know how to conserve, okay? Time to cut back on strafing weddings, you know. You do that, you might have some bullets when you need them. I don't know, it's, call me crazy, it's a theory I have.

A bullet shortage! I mean, torture aside, if we're running out of bullets, that's grounds enough to impeach Rumsfeld, I think! I mean, you know, it's just a theory, it's just something I operate under. Theories, you know. But if you ask questions about whether or not our troops have enough bullets, then you support the terrorists, so don't be asking these questions. But what better way to help the enemy, can I just say, than by running out of freakin' bullets?!

(Laughs) I've never seen anything, you know...

So I have one word, one word - Wal-Mart! They have bullets; go there! We must go where the bullets are! Wal-Mart!

We have cameras, we have shackles, we have women's panties, uhhh, what did we forget? Uhhhhh - BULLETS!!
