Corker raises $2 million for Senate race

CHATTANOOGA — Mayor Bob Corker raised more than $2 million in the first three months of his campaign for the Republican Senate nomination in 2006, federal records show.

Corker reported to the Federal Election Commission that he raised about $2.02 million, including $19,000 from political action committees, from Oct. 1 through December.

He personally donated $4,000 to the campaign.

''We are certainly overwhelmed and humbled by the amount of broad-based support we received,'' Corker said. ''We are going to do all those things necessary to run a successful race.''

2. Weak candidates

I previously assumed Harold Ford would face an impossible task. But the Republican field is so far pretty uninspriring. A bloody Republican primary might be just the ticket to push Ford over the top.
