Wall Street Journal says GovPhil Bredesen's TennCare speech dumped on HRC?
Edited on Mon Dec-06-04 11:57 AM by papau
Granted the Republican pundits think the Gov's TennCare decision makes him a lock for re-election - and the GOP are selling the idea that there is a great tolerance than the Democratic Party realizes to break with the populist economics of F.D.R. - but why does the WSJ editorial board see a dump on HillaryCare?

IS THE WSJ CORRECT- re: "HillaryCare in Tennessee -The disaster that might have been for the entire country" -in praising cutting back TennCare one is cutting Hillary care - and the gov is doing the right thing.

Is this Gov sucking up to the "New Democrats", wanting folks to clip the Wall Street Journal editorial that praises him (Bredesen) - while bashing the program's "HillaryCare" origins? Is TennCare change really a bash at Hillary?

no free link to the WSJ editorial is available.

1. What's wrong with TennCare. If it costs too much then revise the...
program so that only low income people qualify. The wealthier should pay for their own insurance.

I hope that Phil B. did not attack Hillary Clinton. I have great repsect for him and I hope to continue that respect.

2. It appears to be a WSJ spin - but I wonder if there is truth in it- I need
to see the actual changes.

I agree with you - this is a program for the poor - so limit those that qualify so as to make it affordable to the State.

4. total spin
the biggest problem with TennCare is drug prescriptions costs, and I have reason to believe a good portion of that may be due to fraud.

5. Overheard in the barbershop
"Phil Bredesen is the best Republican Gov we've ever had."

No shit folks... the Republicans of this state KNOW that Bredesen is such a moderate that he'll deliver for them on just about anything. Not that I don't like Phil and what he did to lead the way in balancing the state's budget, but at the same time, putting a (D) after your name means you have to act like a democrat from time to time. His "support" of our national ticket this election was PATHETIC. He might as well start fraternizing with the likes of Zell Miller if he keeps this up.

Tenncare is ripe with fraud. Not only that, we have people on all boarder states using TN addresses to get coverage in the state. The program needs to be massively scaled back to only provide for those who cannot provide for themselves while at the same time being heavily and effectively monitored. It can be fixed, and we can have state covered health care for the poor. Provisions MUST be put into place that REQUIRE generic prescriptions when available and HMO need to negotiate care rates that allow the program to provide for our poor while at the same time not being taken advantage of by everyone with grubby greedy little hands (Drug companies and HMO).

It's my understanding though, that Bredesen is going to have to dissolve it because some Democratic activist lawyer won't drop some lawsuits that are currently pending against TennCare which are an obstacle to any proposed overhaul Bredesen can put on the table.
