Progressive Pages- Need your feedback!
I just visited DancingBear's thread about wanting to come up with a directory of Repuke businesses to boycott and provide decent progressive alternatives for folks.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=2587076&mesg_id=2587076&page=

I'd like to help any way I can to compile this book.

Here's what I need from ya'll:

Give me the names and approximate locations of any local TN businesses you saw the last year or so with Bush/Cheney signs outside, behind the counters or in windows. Any "I support President Bush and our troops?" or anything equivalent?

Alternately, provide the names and approximate addresses of progressive or Democratic owned or Democratic-supporting businesses you can recommend instead.

Let us know about good AND bad experiences you've had patronizing good or bad businesses all over the state!

Thanks everybody!
Let's hear em!

1. One for all states: GENERAL ELECTRIC -- GE
Corporate America controls the media and we get manufactured news.
Corporate America now controls the voting machines and we get manufactured elections.

3. Is this a national movement?
I received emails from one of our local leaders in the Kerry Campaign urging pretty much the same thing. It wasn't so much to boycott businesses that supported the re-election of Bush, but more so to support businesses that are run by progressives and democrats. Is this a movement that is taking hold nation-wide on a local scale? If so I wholeheartedly support it!

There were only a few businesses that I can remember in Knox County that predominantly displayed either Kerry or Bush signs, most of this type of information will have to come from those that know the politics of business owners and managers personally, because most smart business people try not to alienate half of their potential customer base by voicing their political opinions in outside their place of business.

I can say one thing. NEVER rent a car from Enterprise car rentals! I don't know about the political leanings of other car rental agencies but Enterprise is a family owned business (ie private company) that HEAVILY supports republican and conservative politics.

4. Thanks for the info switters.
I think the idea is gaining more and more ground. I see it getting tossed around on all kinds of liberal sites.

Three of us on here decided to go with it. I posted one "Pages" post in each state's individual forum to have people post their experiences.

Whatever the businesses are in Knox County that had te signs-- if you can remember, cough em up!

Thanks!

5. Here are few businesses in TN....
I do not know if there were any visible support signs at their locations but they are major contributors to the repukes. I will post more if I think of them.

Cracker Barrel (they also discriminate against minorities)

Ruth Chris Steak house

Pizza Hut

9. In Monteagle:
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 03:55 PM by buddyhollysghost
Dem-owned: Pearl's Foggy Mountain Cafe, Bluewater Lounge, Mountain Outfitters( sells discount clothing, etc), Monteagle Florist

The above are GOOD places to spend money.

DO NOT spend at Tubby's, Mr. Log Homes, Cliffside Realty

Greutli Laager: eat at Stinger's, good Dem folk

Tracy City: Mountain Amoco, Dem owner

McMinnville: Prater's barbecue; they donate to Dems

On edit: Tell them you heard of them on DU. We can get a lot of support from businesses if we send $$$ their way.
