Tubas of Mass Destruction & Octubafest in Cookeville!
Imagine 50 tubas playing Holst's Mars-Bringer of War!!! This is going to rock!

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 21, 2004) — For the featured highlight at this year’s Octubafest celebration, the Tennessee Tech Tuba Ensemble is planning a show to really bring down the house.

The university’s acclaimed student ensemble will team up with about two dozen college and professional guest tubists from all across the country to present a program entitled “Tubas of Mass Destruction,” set for 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, in the Wattenbarger Auditorium of the Bryan Fine Arts Building.

“With more than 25 members, this year’s TTTE is already one of the largest groups ever in the ensemble’s 38-year history,” said Director R. Winston Morris.

“But if the prospect of 25 tuba players on one stage just isn’t enough to excite the potential listener, then the final part of the Saturday evening program should be, with the ‘Tubas of Mass Destruction’ ensemble numbering about 50 or so tubas and euphoniums,” he continued.

The mass ensemble will perform “Fanfare” from the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, followed by Richard Wagner’s “Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral” and Carmen Dragon’s “America, the Beautiful,” both arranged by Gail Robertson, who once led the Disney World Tuba Quartet and who will be a guest euphonium artist at the Saturday concert.

“The show will close with all 50 or so tubas and euphoniums performing Gustav Holst’s ‘Mars,’ with a special video presentation that is guaranteed to rock your world!” Morris said.

And Friday at eight, one of the finest tuba solists in the world (and the ONLY professional one) will perform at Wattenbarger Auditorium. Oystein Baadsvik and accompanying pianist Jorgen Larsen, both of Norway.
