Question for fellow Tennesseans....
especially to you east TN folks. How do you all feel the election is going here in the state? I see a lot of Kerry/Edwards signs still but have seen more the W's lately, too! I do believe it is a lot closer here than what the polls are showing but wondered what you are all hearing as far as comments about the election from people across the state, ESPECIALLY in east TN.

1. Shelby County will go Kerry!!!!
We in Shelby county are determined to help carry the state of Tennessee for John Kerry. I have worked on the phone banks and our base is riled up. We are ready to kick ass and take names. I will be going to the Mid-South Fair on Sunday to help register more voters. WE SHALL OVERCOME.

4. Thats great....
I am working the phone banks tonight here in Nashville at the democratic committee.

I'm sure that Davidson county will go with Kerry. I hope he is getting support in east TN as well. We can make this state go blue if everyone gets the vote out.

7. We're knocking it out in East Tenn too
We're showing up EVERYWHERE. Presence events are a large part of our effort to mobilize the voters here. Showing up and showing our support at large public gatherings helps keep the interest high, voters motivated. I can't tell you how many people get charged up just because they see fellow democrats out showing their colors in public places.

On this note, I hear that there was almost NO Kerry presence at the recent Titan's game in Nashville? Is the office there not doing anything? Several close friends that went to the game this weekend saw TONS of bush people out giving away stickers and yard signs. Where were our people?

The East Tenn group has been registering and motivating Voters like you wouldn't beleive. Our voter registration coordinator here is a GOD-SEND!

The polls are crap. The democrats in Tenn are motivated. We will win this state. Of course some loug public endorsements by our very popular Democratic Gov. would certainly help!

8. There is a lot of anger
We are funneling that anger into the voting booth. We are motivated and we will win this thing.

10. Question for Tennesseans
I'm from the traditional Republican stronghold of Hamilton County (Chattanooga) and I've seen a lot of Kerry bumper stickers and personally know many many who loath George W. Bush. However, I believe that unless Kerry spends some time and money down here in TN, then he will lose to Bush. It will be pretty close, but a loss is a loss.

21. Hi jkohl40!!! I'm also in Hamilton County...
I'm getting busy with a candidate for the state house who is running for Bobby Woods old seat, and hoping that a campaign between John Wolfe and Wamp (yuck) will begin heating up.

Have you heard all of the wingers whining since Hackett has replaced Jammer on afternoon talk radio? It's absolutely hiliarious!!!

23. Hello Tnlefty
Sorry I didn't acknowledge your post before this. I haven't been to this site in a few days. I haven't listened to local talk radio for quite some time and had no idea that Mad Max was back in action. Is he the same old Max or has he been tamed? I'll have to tune in tomorrow (Friday 10/1). I always liked Max Hackett and thought he had what it took to go national. He ought to be sending tapes in to Air America. The Jammer? Well, what can you say about the poor pathetic bastard? A 40-something drunk without a pot to piss in who thinks he's some sort of big shot Republican.

I'm going to give Mr. Wolfe a vote as well. I think he'd be a good Representative if given a chance.

Take care

jkohl40 (Red Bank)

11. Where is the TN for KE leadership?
We ordered 300 yard signs and they were gone within a week. We have reodered but are having trouble getting signs and we have lots of people wanting them. I live in Dyer Co. in West Tennessee. We have very popular Senator and State Reps in this area and our county has more registered dems then repubs.
I can't see the State Kerry-Edwards State campaign chairman is doing very much outside of Nashville. I believe with a little more effort TN would be in a dead heat right now but where is the leadership.

12. I am beginning to think Stephen Lindsey
is in over his head...I don't believe the Kerry Campaign thought they had a chance in TN...But I can still see a win for them here...I have never before seen so many people so motivated...they want Bush out...I contacted Stephen the other day and suggested the State work on a bus tour....Get governor Bredsen, and our Democratic Congressmen on that bus and let them cross the state and campaign for Kerry/Edwards....It would make a huge difference...Maybe some of you folks could e-mail Stephen about the possibility of a bus tour....

We have a Open House planned for our Headquarters....have invited local and State Candidates...also Stephen Lindsey...The City Manager has given permission for us to shut down the street...We will have food, soft drinks and a band...the guest of honor will be the Democratic donkey....

20. Kerry can win TN
He has the most populous county in the state locked up (Shelby) and he is running strong in Davidson (Nashville). I also think a lot of Republicans that voted for Bush in 2000 will stay at home b/c they dont like either candidate.

Lots of rethug donors in west knox, but not insurmountable. We need those young college activists to get off campus and out in town.

16. UT and campus is a special focus
There is a special focus being placed on the younger, largely student based vote in Knox County. Our voter registration effort is winning state wide acclaim and attention (Thanks Amy!). We have been registering young voters by the thousands since spring (starting with the Sundown in the City events).

Today (Thursday) we will be canvassing the Fort Sanders neighborhood talking to all registered democrats and independents. We'll be meeting at 4pm in James Agee park (corner of James Agee and Laurel), so if you or your friends would like to help you are more than welcome. No training or experience needed, just bring something to write with and you'll get all the instructions and material you need at 4pm. The main focus of this canvass effort is to make sure all the students we talk to whom are likely or solid Kerry voters have their registrations updated so they can vote locally and not have to worry about "going home" to vote. This was never done in the Gore campaign in 00.

We are also holding a large Kerry-Edwards house party at 1630 Forest Ave (The White House) starting at 8pm on Friday night (24th). It's an open invite party to all those that want to come out and show their support for the Kerry-Edwards ticket. We'll have kegs, wine, music, lots of good progressive conversation! It's primarily a fundraiser and interest event, so please bring a $5-10 donation. We'll have Kerry merchandise (shirts, stickers, signs, ect) on hand for purchase and we'll also be holding a raffle for some cool prize packs.

There IS a lot being done in Knox County. Read my lips... It will NOT go Bush :). There are over 2 dozen "community" groups doing work like this, along with countless volunteers manning phone banks, voter registration tables, doing block walks, ect.

Unfortunatly I'm in Atlanta now, but good luck with your efforts. The party sounds like a blast!
