Call to action! Down 9 points in latest Zogby Poll.
This is a call to action to all Tennessee DUer's!

We are down 9 points in the most recent Zogby Poll: www.electoral-vote.com. If anybody has been watching these polls, you will know that up until this week Kerry had been showing a 2-3 point lead in Tennessee. While this shift may be attributed to the RNC, we CAN NOT let it go unattended.

All DUer's in Tennessee need to step up their efforts to become involved with their local Kerry Campaign headquarters. All across the state our people are looking for volunteers. There is a MASSIVE voter registration and turnout effort underway and we need all the warm bodies we can get to phone bank, man voter registration tables, canvass neighborhoods to talk to fellow Dems and Independents, and participate in visibility/presence events at all local public gatherings. The only way you can get invovled is to show up at your local headquarters and find out where you can be helpful! There are only THREE WEEKS left to register voters or allow voters to update their registrations!

2. I'm doing my best....
I have volunteered to work and haven't received an email back informing me of anything. If I don't here something SOON, I will go by the French Landing office AGAIN!!!! I told them I would do voter-registration, canvassing, data entry or whatever they needed me to do.
I already work part-time in a conservative area and preach to people all the time about the how Bush is BAD for them...etc.

3. Thank you but keep after them!
Thank you for volunteering!

You have to understand that our efforts in Tennessee are VERY grassroots. We don't have a load of national campaign money, or even national campaign people to work with. As a result the people running and organizing the local offices for the most part are just like me and you.

There has been an EXPLOSION of the amount of people coming in to do volunteer work. The result is some are getting lost in the mix. You HAVE to go down there and speak up, talk to people, get involved. Nothing may happen if you just sign a sheet and wait for them to call, but if you go down to the office you will find when community groups and committee meetings are taking place, you can talk directly to the organizers of voter registration and canvassing and get times and schedules from them. This is as much about all of us (lowly street beaters) being active as it is about our volunteer leadership doing their part.

Don't feel like you are being ignored or that you aren't important just because they aren't calling. Get down there and get active, make a nuisance of yourself. "The world is run by those who show up to meetings."

Keep it up!

4. Here in Putnam County
It would sure help is we could get more campaign material...I hear there is a wearhouse in Nashville full of yard signs...anyone from Davidson County know about this? I run our Campaign office here...I have placed orders on the internet to and paid more just to get some things...I placed an order for Vet's for Kerry Bumperstickers...they were back ordered...I won't need them after the election...People here are fired up..I have all kinds of people wanting to help...We have and average of about 200 hundered people a week visiting out Headquarters and that doesn not include phone calls compared to other years that is a 90% increase.

I would like to see possibly Gov. Bredesen, our Congressmen and State Legislatures get a bus tour together and come through middle TN...I know we can carry TN if only we had a bit of help...Yesterday a man was walking by the office turned around and came back...He was a Republican and came in to tell us he was voting for Kerry only the second time in his life he voted for a Democrat...he also said he knew a lot of others who were doing the same...

We are staying busy registering voters as a matter of fact I registered a 75 year old gentleman who has never voted in his life ..another lady was over sixty same story...

At first our problem was not enough funds but that is no longer the case people have been droping of checks for $100...we have a donation jar and 95% of the folks who come in leave something...I have been depositing an average of $400 a week...

I just hope people don't start losing interest...

"You have to understand that our efforts in Tennessee are VERY grassroots. We don't have a load of national campaign money, or even national campaign people to work with. As a result the people running and organizing the local offices for the most part are just like me and you."

"Load of national campaign money"....The extent of help we have recieved from the national campaign was a roll of stickers as far as I can tell there is no national campaign money....What happend to the money Gore gave to the Tennessee Democratic Party? We have no phone bank lists...I called some time back and was told they would be out in plenty of time...so where are they?

5. Great news, very encouraging!
That's great news from Putnam county! When we were out doing 'presence' events at local public gatherings I was really surprised by the number of people that came up to us to chat and get material who were from outlying counties. There is a LOT of interest in Kerry in rural Tennessee. The Bush people are ignorant if they think TN is in their pocket.

I've heard similar stories about getting campaign material. Even at our Knoxville office we have gone through some dry spells for some gear. It took us a long time to get yard signs in and I think we have a shipment that only comes about once a month.

I'm not sure what to tell you, I really don't have anyway to know the workings of the party leadership in Nashville, being a lowly ground pounder and community co-chair, but I would imagine that if you had someone drive a pickup to the Nashville office you could rattle some chains and get them to load it up for you. It could be that they are so busy themselves that they are unable to physically fill all the demand, regardless of having Kerry gear stockpiled in a warehouse.

One thing I'm learning about this campaign is that if you want it done, chances are you'll have to do it yourself :). It's not really a bad thing because it doesn't come from lack of volunteers it comes from too much work to be done!

We're hearing from people all the time that are traditional Republicans who are voting Kerry this time around. That is so encouraging! I haven't met a single Democrat who is voting for Bush...

Keep after the folks in Nashville. Call them up everyday, make an extreme amount of noise and I'm sure they'll get you taken care of. If not, show up and knock on their door!

6. Been There Done That And More.....
"When we were out doing 'presence' events at local public gatherings "

We had a big one last week end...registered about sixty new voters...passed out nearly all the material we had plus 100 extra yard signs we did talk Nashville out of....We still have 6 various events planned...

"but I would imagine that if you had someone drive a pickup to the Nashville office you could rattle some chains and get them to load it up for you. "

I lost count of the various people we have sent down...I made one trip myself...I had two ready to go yesterday...they finally admitted they did have some yard signs...but...but...no wires to put them on...

"do it yourself :)"

Boy you can say that again....!

One of the events we have planned is a belated Grand Opening..I guess we should call it an Open House since the Headquarters had been opened since Aug....What I want is a lot of people...especially a lot of students...Tech students, high school, elementry, even the little ones...I found a fellow Democrat who has some donkeys and barrowed one for the event...I am thinking of serving some sort of food...finger food...hot dogs or even punch and cookies....

I am inviting all the area candidates...and current office holders...And Stephen Lindsey....We will have the local paper cover the event.....I WANT a lot of pictures....

7. GOTV
They have been doing massive GOTV in Davidson CO and I know they are doing House to House canvassing in Robertson county this Saturday.
We are working hard to GOTV in West Tennessee. We register about a 20-30 new people a week since mid July.We are a small county without much money. We have already placed 300 yard signs and are Turing to scape up enough money to buy 300 more. Its too bad that we have to buy our own yard signs or
I think you'd see more. Sorry for the whining.
GET OUT THE VOTE is the key to this election.
