MTSU Poll: Bush approval slides in Tennessee; Frist no lock
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Fewer than half of Tennessee residents approve of President Bush's job performance, falling 15 percent from last spring, according to a poll released Monday by Middle Tennessee State University.
The results mirror recent national polls showing Bush's approval ratings dropping because of the war in Iraq and other troubles.
Just 40 percent of Tennessee residents had a favorable opinion of Bush's performance, compared with 55 percent in MTSU's spring poll.
The poll showed that if native son Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist runs for president in 2008, Tennessee would not necessarily fall into the win column.
Just 24 percent of those polled said they would choose the Tennessee Republican over the Democratic nominee. Those who were unsure if they would vote for Frist came to 43 percent.
