1. I thought he already announced.
Are you talking about Harold Ford, Congressman of Tennessee?

2. I heard he announced that
he would run too. He's a good guy. I was rooting for him for minority leader in the house.

3. Harold Ford's uncle John may have ruined his chances
ifn' you don't know, uncle John just resigned from the state senate after accepting bribes and threatening to off witness to said bribes...

anyway he wasn't very appealing outside of memphis, too self-oriented for us mountain folk. "Our very best" dem hasn't shown up yet.

5. Rosalind Kurita, a state senator, has also said that she is running
I intend to support her during the primaries and beyond. I don't know whether she is our "best" or not, but I found her to be preferable to Ford regardless of whether his uncle's shenangins have tainted his chances or not.

She describes herself as a populist, described the bankruptcy bill as "a sin" as she realizes as a nurse that a lot of those bankruptcies are filed as a result of medical expenses.

I'm no fan of Harold Ford, Jr.

7. chattanoogan.com article on Kurita 03/02/05
Kurita Says U.S. Senate Poll Shows Her Just Behind Corker
posted March 2, 2005

The Rosalind Kurita for U.S. Senate campaign today released a poll that said Sen. Kurita is ahead of Chattanooga Mayor Bob Corker in a race between the two.

Kurita officials said the poll shows she "has a strong profile that will help her win the likely Democratic primary and showed her in a strong position in a general election matchup."

Now, I know Bob, and being ahead of him at this time - is that a bonus?

Thanks for words of welcome, I've been depending on the news briefs page for a long time without realizing there was a Tennessee forum, luckily where I work we are all democrats, but where I live, I have to turn to the internet for comfort, knowing some of ya'll are in town does help.

8. I would think that being ahead of Corker would be a bonus!
I think that I've seen blurbs on c-span that Corker's not very well known in middle or west TN and that he may have some difficulty. I met Sen. Kurita and a gentleman who is helping with her campaign at the TN Federation of Democratic Women's convention in late April. He told me that she does very well and has a lot of support (financial, etc) in those areas, but that she needs more exposure in the east.

I think that the Hamilton County Democratic Party needs to have at least one candidate forum for Kurita and Ford, Jr. Right now it seems to be all Ford and I'm not very happy about that.

I'm in the Ooltewah/Harrison area and I know what it's like to live surrounded by repubs. Yuck!! Glad that you've found the TN forum and DU!

11. I wish the county will have her featured too
I wonder why it's all Ford. Has anybody from her campaign tried to contact them to speak? Maybe if enough of us can get our friends and families who are democratic to get her to speak they'd let her? I think it's good too she's a head of Corker. Hopefully she'll win!! I think all she needs to do is find time to campaign here and get on the news and things like that.

10. Hi Flirtus!
I'm in Chattanooga and Mr. Corker is okay. He's seen as a moderate but he claims to be conservative. He was okay as a mayor. I think it's good she's a head of him. Is this poll from the Chattanooga area or in Tennessee in general? If it's in Chattanooga that's good news. In 1997-2001 we did have a democratic mayor and now we have an independent one (with a lot of democratic ideals) so that's good news.
