I met Rosalind Kurita this past weekend!!! This is what I learned.
I met some women who know her and they seemed to like her. I mentioned to one of these women that I had heard that she's tenacious. She laughed and told me that is an understatement. In her words, "She does her research, gets both sides of the impact of every issue and tries to persuade others. She sets her sights on something and doesn't stop until she achieves what she wants. I should know. I worked on a campaign for a candidate opposing her, and needless to say we lost. If she's elected to the senate she'll listen to those who voted for her, research and inform her constituents of the reasons that she needs to vote a certain way."

My county hosted the convention of the TN Federation of Democratic Women's convention this past weekend and Sen. Kurita dropped in the hospitality suite Fri. night and I was introduced to her and I spoke with her for about 10 mins. She listened well and she interacted with me in a forthright, concerned and positive manner. She addressed the luncheon attendees along with Harold Ford, Jr. on Sat.

She was born and raised in Midland, TX and was a classmate of the Stepford First Lady and during her speech she mentioned that Mrs. Bush probably wouldn't admit being a classmate of hers now. I think that her father is currently or has been a republican party chair in TX.

She has 3 sons, one of whom is adopted, and one who is attending UTC and majoring in environmental science. She is a registered nurse. She was an at-home mom when her kids were young and because the school her kids attended needed a lunchroom and the county commission refused to address this need she decided to run for office, was elected to the county commission and the lunchroom was built.

She described the bankruptcy bill as "a sin" and an assault on the average American citizen and a huge giveaway to the credit card companies.

She stressed the importance of having more women representation in the senate and more representation of the people instead of so much representation and favoritism of corporations. In a write-up in the local paper she described herself as a populist.

She is a member of the NRA, but informed me that she only shoots clay targets and doesn't kill animals.

She seemed to think that the proposed marriage amendment is merely being used as a wedge and she understood my concerns with this crock and agreed that Miller should be ashamed of himself for ever starting this to begin with. She urged me to write to my rep. and senator in the General Assembly and voice to them what I had just voiced to her.

I'll admit that people refer to me as a small woman so I wasn't expecting the woman that I met. She made me feel like an amazon woman. She is very petite, firmly shakes hands, is very polished in appearance, looks one straight in the eyes and she seems to be genuine.

4. I like Kurita
I actually think she'd have a better chance of taking this seat than Harold Ford, Jr. She would certainly vote as a Democrat a lot more frequently than Ford would, I'm afraid.

5. Welcome to DU knoxvilleboy!!
I really liked her, too. Two of my male friends are excited about the idea of having a woman senator.
