Opinions of GOP faithful shifting

S.C. poll shows change in views on abortion, significant drop in Bush’s job performance rating

By LEE BANDY

Staff Writer

• President Bush’s job performance rating has taken a nose dive in South Carolina.

• Gov. Mark Sanford remains extremely popular among rank-and-file Republicans, but that doesn’t necessarily translate into votes for him.

• S.C. Republicans are not as strongly anti-abortion as they once were.

• U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona dominates the field among GOP presidential hopefuls in the state.

• Republican U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham has emerged as the most popular political leader in South Carolina.

These are highlights of a recent statewide poll taken by Richard Quinn and Associates.....

1. I believe that there is a dimming of the GOP light in SC
But there is still a very long way to go. SC Dems have several opportunities but I wish we would organize around a limmited number of contestable seats and work hard on making some advancement. We could use to build momentum for 2008 when we will be key to naming the National Dem presidential candidate.

Remember also that the polling was performed by Quinn and associates. Quinn is still very bitter for having lost his seat (State House District 72- where he lost the GOP primary to Ballenger). No telling how this poll was put together.
