Chafee now threatening Dems if they filibuster Alito
Edited on Fri Nov-18-05 03:31 PM by woldnewton
As the Senate Republican leadership set a Jan. 9 date for hearings on federal Appeals Court Judge Samuel A. Alito Jr.'s nomination to the Supreme Court, Sen. Lincoln D. Chafee warned of "enormous" consequences from any Democratic effort to kill the appointment by stalling.

1. Why the hell
Did NARAL endorse him, he may say he's pro-choice but when push comes to votes for all of the reactionary judges he votes the same way as Hatch and Frist.

2. More Evidence that there is no such thing as a "moderate" Republican.

3. Yes, and thanks for saying this!
I know not just independents, but even some conservative Dems who keep repeating that phrase until it becomes accepted as 'conventional wisdom'. We must continue to work consistently to debunk that until this conventional 'wisdom' reverses itself to give way to the truth.

5. This is why the dolts at NARAL "Pro-Choice"...
so badly need to pull their endorsement of Chafee.

6. I'd love to ask
The people of NARAL exactly who does more to protect this issue. If the "pro-choice" Chaffee who votes with Hatch and First on these judges. Or it the "pro-life" Harry Reid who led the fight against these judges.

Honestly, I hope NARAL doesn't pull their endorsement. As long as they endorse him its just one more thing for Laffey to bash him on.

7. Clearly...
NARAL Pro-Choice doesn't issue endorsements based on what the outcome of said endorsements will do to affect the balance of power in the US Senate, so I don't see them stopping that trend now...

it will just be interesting to see how they will handle it if Chafee indeed does vote to confirm Samuel Alito. I'm not sure they'd pull it even then, but perhaps they would after Alito votes to overturn Roe assuming that happens before November 2006...

I'm sure the RNC will fix it so it won't...

8. At least this is one situation...
where I can say NARAL Pro-Choice knew what they were doing. So Chafee voted against the Alito confirmation. Whoopee.

9. Is Laffey bashing him with it?
From what I hear, what you meantioned about Laffey having it as "one more thing" to bash the incumbent on is nothing but hogwash. Laffey has avoided controversial topics such as choice/marriage equality in the one debate he's had w/Chafee so far.

How 'bout the newest stupid endorsement -- that from the Sierra Club? Laffey is actually decent on environmental issues, so if he didn't bash Chafee on choice, I doubt he's going to bash him on something they mostly agree on.

So, once again... how, exactly, do the NARAL & Sierra Club endorsements of one more Republican keeping us away from retaking a majority in the US Senate help us, exactly...?

4. I was born and raised in R.I.
And I want to know why the hell they ever elected Chafee. I understand that the Chafee name is a well respected name in R.I., but that is no excuse.
