Corbett administration backs voter ID requirement
The state's top election official came out today in support of a GOP-backed effort to require voters to show photo identification every time they cast a ballot in Pennsylvania.

Secretary of the Commonwealth Carol Aichele said that the proposed requirement for photo IDs would make it harder to commit voter fraud.

She made her remarks this morning in Lancaster at the Pennsylvania County Election Officials Conference.

State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, R-Cranberry, has been the most vocal proponent of the change in election law but has been unable to get a bill passed in both chambers. With Republicans now in control of both the state House and Senate, the proposal is gaining ground.

Of course they do the %^&*#'s. Curses on Cranberry voters who keep voting that RW nut Metcalfe to office!

1. If this passes, as a member of the Election Board in our
precinct, I will make sure all of those registered Republicans show their ID. They won't be happy having to drive home (we're rural) to get it. When they complain, I will tell them who to thank. We are outnumbered 3 to 1 in voter registration here.

5. The Republicans outnumber the Democrats 3-1
so I will have 3 times the Republicans aggravated with me. Whatever. I am just going to do my job and I will say "Thank Governor Corbett for your inconvenience."

There are election reforms that are more pressing these days than VoterID.

Note: This interview was done a week to the day after demodonkey buried her beloved mother, Merle. (see other thread here http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x1855083 )

4. Part of a coordinated nationwide attack
This is part of a well-coordinated nationwide attack on voter rights.

Whenever they are asked to show examples of voter fraud that justifies this crackdown, they can't. The best they can do is to find a couple cases of students who were registered in two states, which is not illegal as long as they only vote once. It is often the responsibility of the voting officials to notify your previous address that your registration should be cancelled.
