Pittsburgh unions rally in support of Wisconsin workers
Pittsburgh unions rally in support of Wisconsin workers -- Feb. 22, 2011

"Public labor union advocates clad in red neckties and red shirts rallied today Downtown in support of their Wisconsin brethren fighting anti-union measures there."

>snip<

"Twenty-five union representatives gathered outside Pittsburgh City Council’s meeting room at the rally organized by Councilwoman Natalia Rudiak. She originally intended the gathering as a way to “honor our public workers,” but she changed it to a rally when “the governor of Wisconsin set about his warpath.”

"Rudiak and others chose to wear red because it is the color of the Badgers of the University of Wisconsin in Madison, the state capital, said Marty Marks, a union organizer.

"“When it’s open season on the workers of Wisconsin … it’s going to be open season on Pennsylvania pretty soon,” said Pittsburgh Councilman Doug Shields."

2. Got an email from Working America about a rally on Thursday:
Edited on Tue Feb-22-11 06:31 PM by PA Democrat
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker thought he could cut the pay and trample the rights of more than 150,000 state workers and not face any consequences. Well, he was wrong. Tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets to oppose his plans.

This is our moment to stand and show solidarity with the workers in Wisconsin. On Thursday, take part in the solidarity rally "Fighting for the Middle Class."

Come Show Solidarity with the
Wisconsin Workers

Join the Rally
"Fighting For the Middle Class"
Thursday, Feb. 24
12 noon
USW International Headquarters
Downtown Pittsburgh
60 Boulevard of the Allies
Our brothers and sisters in Wisconsin and other states are in a fight for the very survival of their jobs and their unions. This is our moment to stand and show solidarity with them and let their governor and the extremist organizations financing these attacks know: WE STAND TOGETHER!

If you plan to attend or if you have questions, please call Catherine at 412-456-2985.

In solidarity,

Working America, AFL-CIO

3. Thanks for posting, PA Democrat.
Hope they get a huge turnout. Wonder if the local media will cover it?
