http://twitter.com/jesspolitico/status/13806298024

ok it's just a tweet ... by Jessica Taylor at Politico ...

@PressSec says at briefing Obama won't campaign with Specter ahead of next week's Pa. Democratic primary

and the footage in Specter's new ad was from 2009.

Hmmm.

1. He is doing calling and I have heard otherwise. But, actually I think it is better if he doesn't
campaign for him. Obama is not very popular in most of PA right now and his track record has been bad. We can handle this on our own-we have it covered.

2. Looks like the..
administration is hedging it's bets because they will have to tuck their tails when Sestak gets the seat....

Sestak is the only real choice for Dems/Libs

3. Obama believes the polls, even if Specter's desperate supporters don't.
Of the large group of Allegheny County Democrats with whom I worked phone banking for Obama in both the primary and November elections, every single one is supporting Sestak and opposing Specter.

The hysterical tone of Specter's supporters and over the top attacks sound increasingly like that of someone whistling past a graveyard.

Verb to whistle past the graveyard

(idiomatic, US) To attempt to stay cheerful in a dire situation; to proceed with a task, ignoring an upcoming hazard, hoping for a good outcome.
(idiomatic, US) To enter a situation with little or no understanding of the possible consequences.
Translations-to try to be positive in the face of one's fears

towards charges of ageism.

I agree with you on that front as well though.

6. The entire area is anti Philly and I know because I live here now.
They would not vote for Specter out of spite because he lives there. The hate is so thick I have stopped telling people where I was born and raised. They also hate Rendell and this was a good way to get back at him.

I voted for Specter because he was the better man in this as far as I am concerned and the race was tied up until the end. The BS about hysteria was over the top.

7. i agree, its hard being a philly
candidate and running st wide. On the contrary Sestak is not a favorite of Philly
and it will be a depressed ticket there. Was glad to support Arlen and Saidel.

Someone said... no Joes from SE PA and theyll come in droves for him. I ran that
logic by a few Philly cheesesteaks and they said nadda look for another sucky
turnout.

i think that the liberal wing of the party will get a good nose cleaning this fall.

An aside for everyone... dont bitch when PA cannot bring any $ back from Washington
and only crumbs from appropiations.

8. Okay, I've officially had it with the crap you're dishing out.
You claim to live in Greensburg, Westmoreland County. View the election results for Westmoreland County for United States Senate for the past three elections, and tell me that people here will vote against Specter out of 'spite':

1992 Specter v. Yeakel - Guess who won?
1998 Specter v. Lloyd - How about this one?
2004 Specter v. Hoeffel - Hmmm?

Yep. Specter, while a Republican, carried all three elections in Westmoreland County, despite voter registration as much as 2:1 Democratic over Republican. Stop talking out of your ass and accept the fact that people wanted Sestak more than they wanted Specter.

9. As much as you know. Westmoreland has more registered Democrats,
Edited on Thu May-20-10 02:10 PM by wisteria
but trends Republican year after year. And, go check out those running against Specter on the Democratic side- all light weights.
And, these numbers do not reflect Democratic ones, he ran as a Republican in all of them. And, as I said, the county votes Republican even though the voters are registered Democrats. You can't win a local race here if you are a Democrat. The Republican machine is entrenched and the Democrat one is a joke.
I stand by my comments based on my living experience, the local right wing rag paper supporting Sestak and conversations with co-workers. And, I will give you that after watching those misleading and lying ads many undecideds were left with the impression that a good public servant-one who had served for 30 years, was nothing more than an opportunist and an old sick man.And all the good work he had done over the years for the people of PA didn't mean a damn thing. This makes me wonder why anyone would want to serve at all, with so many ungratful people in PA and elsewhere. Frankly, it is over and done. I am not going to change your opinion and you are not going to change mine. Lets call a truce.

10. appropriations wisteria, appropriations :)
that's where the rubber hits the road as they'll soon find out sadly enough for PA.

they didn't like specter because he was independent and wouldn't be a lackey for the left wing of the democratic party.
Henceforth, that's why it will be a turkey shoot in November in the western counties just like it was for Obama. If i was
Specter I wouldnt tow the party line for some of these stooges on the more liberal items, Id be independent and do what i thought was right. If that means
telling Obama no, then so be it.

I think the only candidate w a chance honestly is Onorato.

I dont like the progressives when they try to make the moderates tow their line on stuff that is really secondary.
I myself am more interested in labor, jobs, and the economy. I dont pay attention as much to some of the other stuff admittedly.

12. "these stooges on the more liberal items"...
So, you're saying that the left wing of the democratic party are "stooges".

Why are you on the Democratic Underground if you don't like liberals or the left wing?

11. You're proving my point, so again, what was your point?

They voted for Sestak because they preferred him over Specter. Period. And I could go on and on about misleading and lying ads, but you aren't going to get that one, either. So, bye.

That's funny. Mark Critz just did that very thing on Tuesday. He happens to be a Democrat.

Those views are relatively indicative of the district as a whole.

I don't understand why you are so negative and critical. Arlen Specter lost....it was a difficult decision for a lot of voters...those voters don't deserve to be mocked. It is time to move on, support the Democratic party, or get the hell out of the way. There are many of us who want to work for all Democratic victories in November.

The point I made in my post (which was actually answering another poster) was that a Democrat can win in Westmoreland County, in spite of the millions the RCCC spent on Tim Burns campaign. So please, be happy for a change. :)

16. yes, a democrat can win in westmoreland county
Edited on Thu May-20-10 08:46 PM by PADEMJES12
and the point i am making is that a LIBERAL/ progressive democrat will
not win and cannot in many of the Southwestern counties, including westmoreland
this Fall, but Onorato has a chance.

Im not being negative or mocking anyone, offering some critical analysis, if
you cant digest it politics might be the wrong sport. Ive accepted Specter
lost, im willing to help Rep. Sestak in the Fall as much as he will help the down ticket
candidates and give as much effort as he has in the past towards such an endeavor :)

19. Pirates? Sestak at bat
What do the Pirates have to do with anything?

What I would like to see is Sestak going to bat for some other Dems.

When it comes to down-ticket in his district, Sestak keeps striking out with men on bases.

He likes to hit home runs for himself or get batted in, but doesn't help other score.
