New affadavit links Barclay to prostitutes, hidden cameras

State police will analyze computers, videotapes and other electronic devices seized last week from the home of former Cumberland County Commissioner Bruce A. Barclay, who resigned last week after learning he was the focus of an investigation into a rape allegation. According to an affidavit attached to the latest warrant, issued today, Barclay told troopers during the search of his house that he used cameras to record sexual encounters and had saved 100 to 500 images. Barclay also admitted hiring prostitutes on a weekly basis and told troopers he used an Internet-based escort service called harrisburgfratboys.com, the document states.

In response to the new warrant, Barclay's attorney, Matthew Gover, said Barclay concedes he made "errors in judgment" in his private life. Gover said such errors didn't extend into Barclay's public service, which he performed "beyond reproach."

The new warrant allows investigators to analyze the items at the state police laboratory in Susquehanna Twp. That evidence, which includes computers, a Blackberry cell phone, videotapes and compact discs, was seized March 31 during a search of Barclay's home, court documents state. Troopers say the analysis could take days or weeks.

Troopers searched Barclay's 200 block of Brindle Road, Monroe Twp. home a day after they said an adult male told them he had been raped at the residence. Barclay resigned his post as commissioner on April 3. Attorney Gover has called the rape allegation "ludicrous."

Yes, Barclay hired male prostitutes. However, police now say that the secret videotapes he made of those activities vindicate him from a false claim of male rape.

If you are going to do one thing illegal, sometimes it pays to do something else illegal so you don't get accused of something even more illegal. That is a little ironic.
