Damn ! All Kerry signs stolen in my neighborhood
So, coming home to West Linn today, I noticed that several yards were missing their Kerry signs. I got home only to find MY sign was gone, too, having been up only about a week or so.

OK, now I KNOW that this stuff goes on all the time & probably some Bush signs are being "disappeared", but still, there is a sense of violation, that someone would systematically go through a neighborhood, go on private property & remove signs that they don't agree with. (Note: Bush/Cheney signs still abound in my neighborhood).

Anyway, I have since gone to the local Kerry headquarters, bought 3 new yard signs, replaced the outside sign & added a sign in the front window. I took the third sign down to give to folks at the one house that I KNEW had a Kerry sign stolen. A man mowing the front lawn there said that, yes, they did have a sign stolen, their third so far. We talked for quite a while & ended up exchanging info on volunteering to help turnout Democratic voters for November.

1. Can't you do something to insure that it
doesn't happen again? Like put habanero juice(with rubber gloves) on the signs? Put it on your roof?

There's got to be away! I don't go around taking signs that say boehlert..just cause he's a bush flunky.

I haven't seen any Prez signs in our town..just the "Support Out Troops" signs which I guess could mean anything.

13. Don't hurt the kids with nasty things on signs.
Hide in the bushes and wait for up close and personal.

2. Private property has been violated.
Call your local paper and tell them what the thugs have done to private property. Ask if the Republicans are communists, that they think anyone's lawn is their own.

Call the hungriest local tv station, too. And the police. Your sign was stolen. It was your property. You don't know what these thieves will take next. Ask for patrols.

Call the Democratic club and see if they have any idea how many lawns have been vandalized.

Make a lovely stink. PRIVATE PROPERTY HAS BEEN VIOLATED.

11. Good idea, but have a media/police event
if you can get another couple of property owners to speak up.give yourselves an 'ad hock' name. Invite all parties involved, police, local party, local politicians, Call them out to the press conference.

18. I did call the police
...but just had them put it on their police "log", instead of filing an official complaint.

3. experienced folks say one good remedy is pepper spray on the sign
Edited on Tue Sep-21-04 10:38 PM by faithnotgreed
or similar type material

someone else suggested that at a nursery they sell a spray that i think goes on trees or shrubs (no pun intended) to keep animals and like away

tastes gross and hard to remove

just a couple thoughts that are proactive but not excessive....

7. You could also smear Limburger cheese on the
signs. If they put the signs in their car, the cheese will get in the seat and smell for a long time.

8. Love the pepper spray idea
Listening to some thug screaming in pain when he goes to the bathroom would leave me ROTFL. I'm going to find some for my signs!

9. One of my neighbors has a Bush/Cheney sign
But it's right next to his house. I say good for him. Less chance of getting stolen than if it was right along the street. Of course, I'm in the Tulsa, OK area, so it's not like ANYONE is going to vandalize a BC04 sign, but...

14. Well of course it makes
sense to vandalize other signs, or to booby-trap yours in some way as to cause harm to others. This is exactly what we should be doing to persuade others we're on the side of Truth, Justice, and the American Way.

Wait, I might be wrong there.

DO NOT put pepper spry or poison ivy or any other noxious substance on your sign. Quietly replacing it is the most effective thing you can do. I know. I've had yard signs vandalized and stolen, and I'm simply not intimidated. I put out new ones. Eventually the juveniles who do that get tired of the game.

You need to be better than they are.

19. The Oregonian had an article about this
URL: http://www.oregonlive.com/news/oregonian/index.ssf?/base/front_page/1096459546252200.xml

You'll probably need to answer a quick questionnaire to get to the article.

In short, they state that both sides are guilty of this petty vandalism -- but I seem to remember that it was Chaney who claimed that the ``Terrorists" want Kerry to win. And considering that there are still a few cars with stickers that read ``Open season on Terrorists; no bad limit", I think it's not alarmist to consider Chaney's words an incitement to violence against Democrats.

20. Now I'm Really Pissed!!
We had a large plywood Kerry-Edwards sign on our family ranch near Jacksonville. This is a high traffic, high visibility location. We paid for the sign and put it up two weeks ago behind the fence on posted property. It was stolen last night. Why would anyone vote for a man whose supporters are such witless thugs? Angry as I am, these idiots were lucky they didn't encounter my 91 year old mother-in-law whose private property was violated.

We have asked the Kerry camaign to help us replace it with biggest sign they have. If I have to camp underneath it for the next four weeks, this one is not going to be stolen

I'm really sorry that happened, Fighting Irish. It truly sucks, actually, but look at it this way: It shows the desperation of the conservatives in Oregon or in your area. You will be vindicated on November 2. :grouphug:
