BLM new logging plan
The BLM announced their new Western Oregon Plan Revision that they're calling Whopper, isn't that cute. They plan to log over 2 million acres. I can't figure out where they're going to do it because there aren't any trees left between here and California.

"Council president Tom Partin said the lands in question can produce more than 1 billion board feet and that the plan calls for cutting less than half of that.

He said it leaves forests vulnerable to wildfires and insect infestations.

Federal scientists asked to advise the bureau issued a report in March saying the plan likely overestimates the habitat left for fish and wildlife and underestimates environmental impacts.

"We're afraid they're going to turn back the clock of federal forest management and go back to clear-cutting, and that about 70 percent of the volume could come from clear-cutting operations," Joseph Vaile of the Klamath-Siskiyou Wildlands Center said Thursday.

"This is the last gasp of the Bush administration to give away our public resources, ignoring the science that says we need to protect these places," said Kristen Boyles, a lawyer with Seattle-based EarthJustice."

2. It seems to be all private land anyway.

As I drive up to the foothills, all I find are logging roads with locked gates and signs indicating the land is owned by some private timber company. Most of the timber land seems to be privately owned and managed. Fish and Wildlife has no jurisdiction, and clear-cutting is the only M.O.

I doubt there is much more that 2 million acres of BLM timber left to log in the entire state.

3. Here is the map of the BLM Old Growth in the WOPR

I mean honest to pete, the WOPR says it is a logging plan for the BLM land in Western Oregon. Why would you say it doesn't exist when that's precisely what the plan addresses.

4. I didn't say it didn't exist.
I was expressing my disappointment that there is so little of it.

Thanks for posting the map.
