This is one of those things that just creeps me out, and there's much info in the article as to exactly why.

If you haven't heard about these drills, or only have the Oregonian's take on them, have a look. Then decide if I'm just another paranoid loon. I sincerely hope that's the case, because the alternative is pretty bad.

1. The drills themselves

shouldn't creep us out; after all, it is nice to imagine safety and security personnel who are trained to deal (Hurricane Katrina's slop-up is more the reality).

It's the alarming timing of operations like "Topoff". We're all jittery because, whether by coincidence or not, practice operations have a way of being "interrupted" by the real thing.

Oooh, and BushCo. does hate us so . . .
