YEAR END Portland DU MEETUP - Vote HERE
Ok .... We came to the conclusion that Helvetia may not be the best option for us this time around .... So, we are opening the bidding by presenting these choices.

Feel free to interject any other option you think may be a great place to meet on a semi-sunny but COLD day (High 45 Degrees F) - A place that has a covered, outdoor seating area, and the bohemian ambience that we appreciate so much ....

These are obvious ...

> Lucky Labrador - SE Hawthorne

> County Cork - NE Fremont

> Old Market Pub - SW Multnomah

> Raccoon Lodge - SW Beaverton Hwy

> Laurelthirst Public House - NE Glisan

And for those who wish to strike into new territory:

New|Old Lompoc Brewpub - 1616 NW23rd (503)225-1855
(Covered Patio - Smoking OK - End of the Streetcar line - outdoor heaters not working, but should be fixed by tomorrow)

Rogue Ales Public House - 1339 NW Flanders (No answer at 9:30am)

Hillsdale Brewery and Public House - SW Sunset and SW Capital Hwy

John Barleycorns - SW Sequoia in Tigard

Kennedy School - 5736 NE 33rd

Its too early to call some of these for details .... but perhaps some of you know about them ...

Anyways .. CHIME IN, and cast a vote ...

Ill be around all day - PM me for my cell#

3. Who Me?
"Hillsdale Brewery and Public House - SW Sunset and SW Capital Hwy
" is near the bus mall

"John Barleycorns - SW Sequoia in Tigard
" I can throw a rock at from here.

If there are a significant number coming by public transport I vote for acessability.

4. There is a problem with John Barleycorns in that regard ....
Edited on Fri Dec-29-06 01:53 PM by Trajan
The 38 and 96 are nearby, but they DONT run on the weekends ...

Hillsdale Brewery is doable : I live closeby, and it is on the frequent and everyday 54/56 line ....

I am always open to exploring new places .... I am leaning towards New Old Lompoc ...

There was another small brewpub just across the Willamette from Downtown, on SE Oak ???? ... we went there once, and it was rather nice for us .... I cannot recall the name though ...

OLD Old Lompoc ? ...

Lucky Lab Hawthorne was our first meetup, and it is our sturdy standby location ... Let's see who chimes in with what ...

6. Don't know enough to vote, but we'll be there once it is decided.
We are both looking forward to this. We prefer to stay in Portland, and smoking is appreciated.

7. Hey Greyhound ....
Been watching your thread for the last weeks .. and WELCOME to Portland ....

We have some smokers, so we tend to seek those places that have outdoor patios and such for that reason .... PLUS: Good Beer and Food is a plus too ...

We have been generally successful in that regard ...

I am leaning to New Old Lompoc in the NW23rd area ... It's just four blocks north of the end of the streetcar line near Marshall and 23rd .... Your thread mentions you moved to the Gateway neighborhood, so you could conceivably take the MAX train to Portland downtown and explore for a few hours before heading out to the meetup ... just an idea ... (It will be pretty damned COLD though)

Well .. I am getting ahead of myself, since there is no consensus as of yet ... but wherever we wind up, it will be wonderful to meet new DUers and revel with the, dare I say, 'OLD' DUers ? ....

Keep abreast of developments here ...

8. Looks fine to me.
I can find it from the address and it is in the neighborhood I'm thinking would be a good place to settle permanently, so double good.

We'll probably drive this time, as it is a bit of a hike to the Max from here for this weather, we're still not really acclimated yet, too many years in the desert.

16. NEW Old Lompoc .... SOLD .....
Ok .... New Old Lompoc it is .... Saturday 4PM

1616 NW 23rd, @ NW Raleigh, 4 blocks north of Northrup

Bus Riders - Take the Streetcar to Marshall and 23rd - Walk 4 blocks north on 23rd - On the right past Raleigh

Great, friendly neighborhood bar that has it all. Booze, great microbrew, television, smoking, non-smoking, and a great menu. Try Lompoc for a great mellow lunch and justify a beer with their exciting craft-brewed selections. In summer, don't miss the patio (voted "Best Outdoor Seating" on citysearch.com,) and in winter head out back to their heated enclosed patio for Tues night Trivia. Whether or not you still have your hair, join "The Bald Guy Brigade" and get a tee, mug and 10% off everything for a year, while supporting "Locks of Love" at the same time. Sundays: The Off-Key Bluegrass Jam, 1-4pm. Mondays: $2 Lompoc pints, all hours. Tuesdays: Legends of Leisure trivia night, 8 p.m. $1 off all mixed drinks 4-7pm M-F & all day Sat & Sun. $2 Lompocs 10pm-close, every night, too

The Scene
The low-key atmosphere at this neighborhood brewpub is a refreshing change from the bevy of trendy shops and restaurants that line the rest of 23rd Avenue. Named after a bar in an old Mae West movie, the Lompoc has been crafting its own brews since the mid-nineties, and features a variety of ales and lagers with memorable names. The John Outhouse Special Bitter, for example, is an English-style beer, and tastes much better than it sounds.

The Draw
The beautiful, vine-covered patio out back is reason enough to visit. When the weather cooperates, everyone heads outside to eat and drink alfresco style. Complement your libations with a full menu of pub snacks, burgers, sandwiches and salads. Every day from 4pm to 7pm, happy hour features $2.50 pints and $1 off cocktails. And stop by for a $2 bloody mary every Sunday Bloody Sunday.
