Poll question: Ted Kulongoski as the first Oregon president:
Edited on Tue Nov-14-06 02:56 AM by BlueIris
I was pleased to see that someone actually did ask him the question the other day, about a week before the vote (during a last minute outreach to Latino/Hispanic voters that some of you may have actually listened to).

1. Kulongoski???
Kitzhaber maybe. Kulongoski isn't exactly Mr. Personality. Did you hear the serious gaffe over the people flooded last week? I mean, I do agree people who build on cliffs are asking for trouble, and some rivers do flood all the time - but that's not what you say when people are losing their homes. Eek. Mostly though, Oregon doesn't get governors. We don't even get good smear campaigns. The big attack on DeFazio was that because he took money from some animal group he was going to ban hunting!! The ad even had a scary picture with gray hair and everything!

2. Not that it makes a diff, but Kitzhaber would have a better chance at it
Kulongoski is far too wonkish and softspoken to have the necessary impact; Kitzhaber was a dynamo by comparison.

I wouldn't expect either to make it through the primary, tho.

4. Sadly, I can't think of any Oregonian who could pull it off.
Off the top of my head, the only one who had the charisma and drive necessary was Pre, and he's been dead for thirty years! :-(
