Nice story on Jim Rassmann
One of the better I've seen.

"Scores of speeches at this week's convention have touched on the episode, offering it as evidence of Kerry's decisiveness in crisis. Even fellow soldiers -- and Kerry himself -- joked about it Wednesday, hanging a life preserver around Rassmann's neck during a river boat cruise around Boston Harbor."

"Rassmann and his wife Julie dined with Kerry during a campaign stop in Portland, Ore. Rassmann has also met Teresa Heinz Kerry -- and found a common interest in orchids. The candidate's wife cultivates orchids at her home in Pennsylvania, specializing in a variety of the flowers from Asia; Rassmann specializes in a genus from the Andes mountains of South America.

But it's the memories of dust, heat and fear in Vietnam that keep Rassmann busy on the campaign trail.

"My wife claims this has been good for me to have these compartments open," Rassmann said. "She's probably right. She's often right."

1. Any time a rethug questions Kerry's war record
it might be a good idea that we refer them to Jim Rassman.

2. Absolutely
Somebody posted a story around here about some vet protestors in AZ. Rassmann went right to them invited them in to the event to talk, answered all their questions. They certainly didn't all convert, but I guess they did at least calm down a bit and shake his hand in the end.

One of these days, I'm going to see that guy at the Safeway and I'm going to get to give him a BIG OLD HUG!!
