Anyone know anything about Hillsboro?
A very slight possibility of moving there in the near future. We know nothing about Hillsboro or the surrounding areas.

1. Soso. Just spent 8 years there
Growing fast, hard to get in and out of portland due to traffic. Washing county sherrif has too much money and time, real Nazi's. Weak in gang enforcement, though it's needed.

Driving while mexican is a common excuse for traffic stops, rarely with less than 6-8 officers present.
Close to hi-tech, for what it's worth. On the rail line.

Land can still be found, but it's been going fast. Real estate is getting over priced, few old houses, unlike Portland. Bad intersections with Hwy 26, seems people are killed crossing nearly every month.

Century high, the relatively new showpiece is turning in to a tough school. Grade schools are pretty good. Interview potential neighbors about specific gripes.

Hope this helps

2. The good, the bad, the ugly
Disclaimer: I moved here from Portland last summer. Long time residents may have other viewpoints.

The good: convenient physical access to many of the "silicon forest" businesses, home prices are reasonable compared to Portland, quicker to get to the coast and other recreation areas west of Portland, light rail makes going into Portland on a whim viable, more parks and open space than your average suburb, bigger than Beaverton but still retains a small-town vibe, large public swimming pool, Democratic congressional rep

The bad: crappy public school system, lots of McMansion and cookie cutter-style developments, flagrant Republicanism at every turn, no (visible) local culture, mega-churches dot the landscape, racist police force, run-down and failing city "center", SUVs and minivans are disproportionately popular

The ugly: you will shop at strip malls and superstores, the population has grown faster than expected, gang activity has already become a factor and will probably worsen, high concentration of computer geeks may cause adverse reactions in some newcomers, high pollen count may cause allergic reactions for others, close proximity to farmland means close proximity to fertilizer, the main traffic arterials are prone to blockages

The known unknowns: new library facilities in the works, road widening on highway 26 is nearing completion, some new housing developments and neighborhood schools, local prosperity depends heavily on volatile tech industries
