Throughout his nearly twenty-five years in public service, former Vice President Al Gore has been an outspoken environmental advocate. In Congress and the White House, he was the leader of a wide range of environmental initiatives.

Global warming is affecting the world we live in, including here in Oregon, where sea levels on the coast are rising and snowpack in the Cascades has declined by 50 percent. Vice President Gore is traveling the world delivering a powerful and compelling multimedia presentation on the global environmental crisis and issuing a ringing call to action.

On Tuesday September 6, 2005 at 6:30 pm, the former Vice President will be delivering his riveting multimedia presentation on global warming and the environment at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland.

This powerful and compelling multimedia presentation on global warming and the environment will teach, enlighten, inform and entertain.

Doors to the ballroom (rooms 201 and 202) at the Oregon Convention Center, 777 NE Martin Luther Kind Blvd. in Portland, will open at 6:00 pm. Admission is free, and tickets are not required. Seating is limited.

1. Too late. Fuck off Al. Too late.

edit: I'm sorry. I'm Canadian. I'm not part of your loop. I usually stick ONLY to US foreign policy when I post on DU. However, if I may say, Gore epitomizes the weak, lame Dem that will destroy you in your next election.

Face it. Unless you scream like the mayor of NO, you're fucking nothing. You're a useless, ineffecual Dem/Republican pol, awash in a LITERAL sea of feces on the streets of New Orleans.

Sorry. Good luck.

Second edit: I should never have responded to this post in the first place...my apologies.

3. What the hell do you expect him to do?
Storm the WH with a band of armed environmentalists? Hell, at least he FOUGHT the stolen election of 2000...

Al Gore cares more about this countries future than Bush and the Bush balllicking Congress ever could...

4. What's too late? Gore has been at this for many years.
Did you know that he's even written books?

Maybe you mean people are too late in listening and paying attention to Mr. Gore?

7. are you sure you are Canadian?
I never met one like you before...too bad, but I will show you that weakness you describe - with forgiveness. Gore would have made the greatest president and I miss him terribly in the public eye. He was sensitive and perhaps that is what you mistook as weakness. The man had a vision 'Earth in Balance' way before many....

9. F.Y.I. Gore personally flew out Katrina victims to Tennessee hospitals
He would have done this earlier, but FEMA jerked him around for a couple days before giving clearance for the flight.

Haven from fury Mercy Flight Brings Evacuees to ET

Gore accompanies about 140 arrivals from New Orleans but declines to take credit

By ROBERT WILSON

(snip)

About 140 people - mostly elderly and infirm - arrived Saturday at McGhee Tyson Airport on a chartered mercy flight from hurricane-ravaged New Orleans, welcomed to East Tennessee by a bright sun and a host of medical professionals straining at the reins to help their fellow human beings without regard to whether they were on the clock.

The displaced hurricane victims came to Tennessee on a hastily arranged flight, accompanied by doctors and carrying whatever they had in boxes, bags or, in one case, an old suitcase tied up with rope.

Former Vice President Al Gore arranged the flight and was on board, but he declined to take credit for the airlift, fearing it would be "politicized."

2. Al Gore did try so much.
He did believe and tried to get the word out that global warming was so important to heed and act and prepare for and try to stop. The Republicans made fun of him. They tried to portray him as a nut.

5. I would love to meet/hear Al Gore.
I can't not show up to my classroom on the first day of school, though. I think I'll let my mom know about this. She might be able to head over the mountains, and she would be thrilled.

10. it was a great presentation
There was an overflow crowd in the two conjoined ballrooms, so much so that they opened up a third ballroom to get extra people in. On top of that, there were reportedly several thousand MORE people who couldn't get in at 6:30. For these people, Al Gore graciously stayed after & did the ENTIRE 2-hour program over again for their benefit. This in spite of a schedule requiring him to be in SF tomorrow morning.

The program itself was very compelling, with Gore detailing scientific observations on the phenomenon of global warming, the actual facts leaving no room for doubt that global warming is real, is being caused by humans and is an impending threat to the world.

One of his key points noted that there have been 928 peer-reviewed papers in the scientific community characterizing global warming as a serious problem, while there have been zero - ZERO - peer-reviewed papers saying it's not a problem. In contrast, however, a survey of newspaper articles over the past 15 years or so showed that 53% of the stories say that there are conflicting views in the scientific community about global warming, a disconnect explained by the efforts of the fossil fuel industry (Petroleum Institute, et al) to sow the seeds of doubt in the public mind.

Anyway, I wish everyone could have seen this, especially moderate conservatives who have been hoodwinked by years of industry propaganda.
