Portland DU'rs....MeetUp?
I am surrounded by Repugs! How I managed this living in Portland I will never figure out. My job - 80% Republican. The local tavern I go to - 70% (that's what I get for going to a sports bar, I guess.)

The ones who aren't republicans don't like discussing Politics, I'm still trying to convince some of them to even vote. They had given up on the system.

I am going crazy for real conversation. DU is great, but a bit 'electronic'.

Any plans? Wanna make some?

1. What neighborhood do you like?
Edited on Thu Jul-28-05 09:23 AM by swag
I wonder if the Bridgeport Brewpub has been remodeled yet, up there at 14th & Marshall NW. Or maybe the Lucky Lab down in SE.

I live in NE myself, but have been to Kennedy School far too many times in my life.

We could always shoot for something a bit more homey.

9. Bridgeport - still closed

:(

Lots of good suggestions! I googled them all and Lucky Lab on Hawthorn sounds about perfect - central location, close to bus lines 70 and 6. Outside covered patio, tasty brews.

This weekend is probably too soon, we need time to let everyone know. Aug 6?

3. Wow, what part of PTown do you live in?
I have had the exact opposite experience. Nary a pug in site. I try and stay within City limits of course...

10. N Portland...
almost everyone I work with comes in from Wilsonville, Canby, Or. City. This is what happens when you let people hire their friends. No diversity.

5. Sounds great!
East side is better for me. I work in Clackamas.

A place that's pretty central is Fireside Coffee Lodge on Powell and is a great place for meetups.

6. The patio at The Moon and Sixpence in Hollywood is a sweet spot.
The Moon is the best pub in town, bar none, so, if you haven't been, go.

Another outdoor option: The patio at The New Old Lompoc in northwest.

Of course, there is always The Garage or The Laurelthirst and on and on. There are so many great liberal pubs in this town!

11. Great idea!
I think this weekend is too soon. How about next weekend? I live in the NE, but would be willing to go anywhere that is fairly centrally located. I have heard that the Lucky Lab is great.

I do pity you being surrounded by Republicans. Clearly you need some moral support. Let's all get together.

12. Do we have a Third? Or other suggestions...
Edited on Sat Jul-30-05 02:44 PM by Viva_La_Revolution
What about the date? Once we decide, can we ask the mods to PM all PDX du'ers? or is that too "Please come to our party... please!"

:spank:

edited to add: Pooches allowed in the Lucky Lab, does this work for everyone? Will take into consideration - Allergies and Phobias. :)

17. Whoa! I almost forgot that Elad lives amongst us now
This gets me thinking we should meet at the Bagdad or maybe the Barley Mill. Both are inner SE Hawthorne, both have decent micros + food, Bagdad has flicks, Barley Mill lets ya smoke. What's your transport like, Elad?

it's got outdoor tables too. Serviced by Trimet #14.

This is a clincher if we can get the illustrious Elad to attend!:P

19. I'm game
It would be better if we made sure that easy public transportation was available. Maybe something close to light rail.
