Wyden sliding on Social Security?
www.talkingpointsmemo.com

Josh Marshall advises pro-Social Security Oregonians to "keep an eye" on the senior senator.

I've written Wyden once on this. Time again? We don't want him to go Lieberman on us:

1. You know, the Dems could use this to their advantage. On a rotating
basis they could each step up and make a statement/comment that appears they could be approached to make a deal, the repukes would spend time and resources chasing them and then they could just go "Nevermind" as the next Dem "opened up" leading them on a wild-goose chase! Added bonus that each smackdown would be public!

3. Thanks for the
heads up on Sen. Wyden, I'm not from Oregon but I will email him.
Have you seen this action alerts on Social Security, Bankruptcy and Nuclear Bunker Busters. So far no one has posted on my thread and we need to support this actions, guys.

4. An NPR interview this afternoon said that the reform has to be
this year because the Pugs who are up for re-election do not want Social Security brought up in 2006 when they are running (aren't the pugs great...? they might have to tell some truth and lose.) After that the Presidential election will negate the push for a bill certain to be unpopular. Hence Bush is trying to ram it through and even willing to say he will compromise. Watch your back.

5. that is exactly what
he is trying to do or he would get off of it, finally !
Poll after poll shows people don't want his "personal accounts".

6. I was unable to attend Wyden's "listening session" in Bend last week.
And never did hear what he had to say as to his position on the SS issue. Time to e-mail him again, I guess. Thanks for posting.

7. I don't trust Wyden farther than I can kick him
He betrayed seniors on the Medicare bill last year (despite having once been a co-director of the Gray Panthers) and he's likely going to vote for the bankruptcy bill (again).

I didn't vote for him last time- but now that he's in there for another 6, nothing he does "in the spirit of bipartisanship" would suprise me....

Of course, that doesn't mean I believe Josh Marshall's musings either- he hasn't got the best track record lately....

9. Wyden is slippery IMO
I remember when he was campaigning many years ago, here in Eugene. He appears to be very skilful at twisting the truth. Have never forgotten my impression of him . Wyden is for Wyden.

10. Wyden won't slide.
He won't pull a Lieberman. My cousin works in his office and we've had many a conversation on this issue. Wyden is committed on seeing this bill fail.
