Veterans benefits
Oregon was one of the first states to start Vets' benefits after WWII and helped to push the US govt. into making education and home buying available to all who served this nation. Now, when the federal government is leaving all the returning Reservists/National Guard literally out in the street, Oregon (Governor) is considering giving them several new benefits. Our veterans from Oregon are special to us. They were forced to leave jobs, wives, and families and go to one of the ugliest places on earth to face people who use knives to decapitate whoever they wish! Let's face it, we had little to do with their having to go but * will denounce them and already has, by sending many of the medically returned vets, bills for hospital services and medicines and charging for meals while they are treated daily at outpatient military hospitals!
"When the going gets rough and tough enough" Oregonians will get down right ornery! Take a lesson Federal and state governments "watch Oregon!" All those who have lost a child, wife, husband, mother,or father are all going to be denied many benefits by * also!
Leaving out all partisan politics, It's time to make a noise about ABUSES!

1. "A grateful state thanks its troops"

M ost of the new benefits that Gov. Ted Kulongoski and legislators want to give members of the Oregon National Guard who served in the Middle East are small gestures -- free hunting and fishing licenses, state-park passes and the like.

But as with any gift, it's the thought that counts. The young, battle-weary citizen soldiers who have begun to stream home to Oregon need to be reminded, in ways big and small, that this state honors their service.

We're glad to see the governor and legislators preparing to grant these soldiers tuition waivers to use at any of seven public universities in Oregon. They also are preparing to stuff goody bags with such things as recreation passes and free vehicle registration. There's even a proposal to establish an Oregon National Guard license plate.
