IF SO LET'S PUT IN CALLS TO THEIR BOSSES, FAMILY MEMBERS, ETC. TOMORROW.

ACLU Denounces October Police Actions in Jacksonville
Medford - January 6, 2005.  At a press conference today, the Oregon ACLU’s Southern Oregon Chapter denounced police tactics used against anti-Bush demonstrators in Jacksonville on October 14th while President Bush was visiting.

After a lengthy investigation by the Southern Oregon Chapter and ACLU volunteer attorneys, ACLU concluded that police used excessive force to clear lawful demonstrators from the vicinity of the Jacksonville Inn.  A riot squad reportedly comprised of Jacksonville police officers, Jackson Co. sheriff’s deputies and Oregon State Police troopers used batons and pepper spray paintball pellets to clear a crowd of anti-Bush protestors after the President entered the Jacksonville Inn for dinner.

Oregon ACLU Executive Director David Fidanque said after the news conference that all agencies involved in the incident should review the actions of the officers involved and take corrective action to ensure that similar abuses aren’t repeated.  He also said that ACLU volunteer attorneys are considering filing suit.
While there are a few inaccuracies in the following news reports, for more information, read the Ashland Daily Tidings http://www.dailytidings.com/2005/0106/010605n2.shtml and the Medford Mail Tribune http://www.mailtribune.com/archive/2005/0107/local/stories/02local.htm articles on the investigation.  No final decision has been made on whether the ACLU will file a lawsuit.

2. I do
I live about 15 miles away from JVille, and I was there when it happened. My friend got shot in the stoumach by a beanbag. My friend's mom got kicked out of the rally for wearing a shirt that said, "protect our civil liberties." I almost got arrested for yelling, "No one died when Clinton lied!"
Also, the Ashland Daily Tidings and the Tribune are my daily papers, so if you want someone to write a letter to the editor, I'm on it. I know who most of the officers were, and I am working on a full list.
