Oregonians set record in November election
PORTLAND, Ore. - More than 2.1 million Oregonians registered to vote this presidential election, the most in the state's history, said Secretary of State Bill Bradbury.
Bradbury certified the results in a statement Thursday about the Nov. 2 election.

More than 1.8 million people cast ballots, or 71.2 percent of eligible voters - whether registered or not. That turnout puts Oregon third nationally behind Minnesota and Wisconsin, Bradbury said.

Of the people registered to vote, 86.5 percent actually cast votes, the most since the heated 1960 Nixon-Kennedy presidential race.

Meanwhile, Bradbury and U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden became the first candidates in Oregon history to receive more than 1 million votes each.

The final certification results are available online at www.sos.state.or.us/elections.

1. Thanks for the update.
I was personally responsible for badgering a few lovable but lazy teenagers to register for the vote.

However, most of the credit really belongs to the Democratic Party of Oregon, and Move On. They were phenomenal.

It has a period in it so it doesn't work.

Can't believe people are fighting me on mail-in voting. It obviously works!

3. thanks for the fix......
I like the OR way too. I have the most infuriating conversations with someone at work (I love her to death, even if she is a repug) about the mail-in thing. She liked going to the polling place on election day, etc, the whole experience. She thinks the ballots aren't as safe, because the ballot boxes are everywhere, and anyone could steal the ballots. Does no good to tell her the machines aren't even that safe!

4. Oooh, I could freak her out
The guy who picks up the ballots where I live is a Democrat!

Maybe we should add an automated mail card system when the ballots are received, just to reassure people. Would still be cheaper, and safer, than those stupid machines. I think voting at precincts is WAY over-rated. I don't even understand what the thrill is.
