1. I got my whole family to write the mayor
The mayor can't wait until his term is over. He's in way over his head, IMO. I go to a large Unitarian Church and I noticed our minister at the meeting. Otherwise reaction is as you would expect; thinking people think it's nuts, a few support it, and most don't care one way or the other.

Creationism Display At Tulsa Zoo Wins Approval
Tuesday June 07, 2005 6:40pm Reporter: Teri Bowers Posted By: Kevin King

Tulsa - Tempers are flaring as Tulsans argue religion, science and the Tulsa Zoo. One man's proposal to add a creationism display turned the zoo into the backdrop for a heated debate.

"Take away all the crap and then we can all get along. Nobody is going to fight over animals."

Animals seemed to be the last thing on most minds in this standing room only meeting of the Tulsa Parks Board, even though they were battling over the zoo. At issue is Dan Hicks' proposal to add a creationism exhibit.

He says the zoo is already home to other religious references -- the globe inscribed with the words 'the earth is our mother' and an elephant statue which is an artistic image of the Hindu faith.

"The Pandora's box is already open," Hicks says. "All we're saying is if you're going to open Pandora's box and you're going to allow all these religions in, don't forbid ours."

And here's some more on the batshit-crazy nutjob Dan Hicks, who orchestrated the Tulsa Zoo Creationism display - appears he's been at this for a while:

4. I am so sick of these freaks.
I'm a Christian and realize that you CAN have it both ways. Why can't evolution be something from God? It's never explained fully in the bible. God, these people make the rest of us intelligent Christians look bad.

5. Today's Tulsa Sunday World Opinion page had letters about it...
Two for, two against. While I personally don't think the Zoo is the place for any of this, I do think that if they allow the Christian Creationism exhibit, they need to include displays for ALL religions' versions of the creation story - but I don't think that's what loony Mr. Hicks is after...

6. The decision was reversed last week.
They took a lot of heat over it and changed their mind. }(
