Dayton mayor becomes first woman, black to lead Ohio Democratic Party
COLUMBUS
| Dayton Mayor Rhine McLin will make history today when she takes over as interim chair of the Ohio Democratic Party.
The party started in 1826 and McLin, 57, will be the first woman and the first black person to lead the party, according to state party records.
"I think the party is ready for her type of leadership," said Gabrielle Williamson of Dayton, the Ohio Democrats' deputy communications director.
McLin was at party headquarters in Columbus on Monday and Tuesday and the staff got a sample of her "hands on" leadership style, Williamson said.
"To see her in action the last couple days, to take a party that just had its CEO step down and to come in and embrace the organization and provide the type of leadership that most people can't imagine, let alone possess, is such a great thing to see as a young woman," said Williamson, 33.
GO McLin!!
