Strange numbers in Franklin County, Ohio
Keep in mind that all day there were long lines at most polling places. Some until way after the time for polls to close. I have never had to wait in line in my 30 years of voting in Ohio, but yesterday I had an hour and a half wait. However,..official figures from the SOS web site says that in 2000 Franklin had a turn out of 61.3%. In 2004 we had 60.95% IMPOSSIBLE !

2000
Registered voters 681,949 Voted 417,800 760 Precincts

2004
Registered voters 845720 Voted 515,472 788 Precincts

My math is not good, but I figure that it works out to an increase of 7 extra voters an hour per precinct. This would cause waits of hours?? I think not !!

1. Slow and lack of voting equipment was all part of their plan.
The media talked about voter intimidation all week and when we were actually intimidated, they lay down and say Wow, the Chimp got more votes than Reagan.... WTF I hate the US media.

6. My Polling place
Had it's usual number of machines and there was no intimidation. I saw no one but the regular poll workers, still the line was over an hour long for 12 hours. This is in a mid class working neighborhood.
No reason to be so slow if turnout was not excessive.

2. I pegged Franklin as fishy yesterday.
And I believe Bush going there yesterday morning to "surprise and thank" the volunteers was just a smokescreen.

3. Don't know the numbers
But I'm in Franklin County and I waited two hours to vote (starting at 10:00 AM) where I've never waited before in the morning before work.

4. Question for lawyers - could an individual voter sue to have vote counted?
What if I voted absentee or provisional ballot? Don't I have a constitutional right to have my vote actually counted?

5. Were the calls to Evangelical Christians supposedly from
Kerry campaign warning to vote for Kerry to protect gay marriage made in Ohio ? On Jim Lehrer they said the difference was about 150,000 EV. Christians in rural Ohio. I'm sure something like that was done.

7. Oddly enough
I was working the polls for Kerry in Bexley. There was a line early - up to 90 minutes but that died down by lunch time and there was virtually no line all afternoon. About 2:30 PM, one of the poll workers said about 80% had already cast their votes. I concluded that this polling place, with its few voters, had plenty of voting machines to go around except under peak conditions while other polling places (mostly in minority precincts)had long lines and few voting machines from open to close. Thanks for supporting democracy Ken.

8. I was going to start a thread about Lake County's Results but for some
reason I was re-directed to the page that says "not enough posts"..here is the link to Lake County results. http://www.lakeelections.com/results.htm I voted absentee and my vote is still not counted...matter of fact no absentee or "provisional" ballots have been counted. I believe it was the NY Times that ran a story yesterday that there may be six million ballots nationwide yet to be counted. I don't know if overseas ballots were included. I will go try and find that article and update here.

9. Voting anomaly alert in Ohio.
Voting anomaly alert in Ohio.

The Franklin County Board of elections has posted a PDF file showing the precinct totals in the county. One of the precincts is clearly in error, Gahanna 1B, which lists Bush with 4258 votes, to Kerry's 260. No precinct has that many voters, and in fact the "public precinct count" for that precinct (number of voters who entered a voting booth) is listed as only 638. So Bush was given about 4000 spurious votes in that precinct.

I sent an email to the news editor of the Columbus Dispatch and got a reply saying that the Dispatch staff noticed the Gahanna 1B data this morning and has contacted the BOE asking for an explanation. They hope to have a story on it tomorrow.

11. IMPORTANT! - Where did you find the "public precinct count"?
I've been looking for one. I didn't see it on the Ohio Secretary of State site or the Franklin County Board of Elections site.

13. I'd like to compare the number of voters who showed up to vote...
...(in Franklin County as a whole) with the number of ballots actually counted in the county. I already know how many ballots were counted. Now I just need to know how many people showed up at the polls. If anyone has that information either all added together for the county or seperately by precincts, please let me know.

The same info for Mahoning County would also be helpful.
