Pamphlet calls for Jacobs to quit

Joe Griffith

For the past 10 days, students in classrooms, hallways and popular hangouts on UT’s Main Campus have been flooded with roughly 2,000 pamphlets titled “Lloyd Jacobs Is A Threat To Your Future.”

The pamphlets were created and distributed by a group of roughly 15 UT students, said Evan Morrison, a senior majoring in history and the pamphlet’s primary author. After highlighting three main arguments against UT President Lloyd Jacobs, the pamphlet ultimately calls for his resignation.

“It’s time for Dr. Jacobs and the university to part ways,” the pamphlet reads.

Morrison said the idea for the pamphlet occurred after he read the Feb. 26 article in the online publication Inside Higher Ed about the potential partnership between UT’s Judith Herb College of Education and the for-profit company Higher Education Holdings.

It's encouraging when college students are concerned about creeping privatization in higher education. This proposed partnership sounds like a real scam, but exactly what you would expect when a university is run like a business.
