1. I grew up in that area, but moved away 10 years ago
I know that there are Democrats in that area, despite what some would have people believe. I think that there is an oppurtunity to take back the district. I don't know who would be a good candidate though.

5. Strickland would call a special election to fill the open seat

Ohio GOP spokesman John McClelland said Gov. Ted Strickland will have to call for a special election. He said it wouldn't be appropriate to discuss potential successors. http://blog.cleveland.com/openers/2007/09/congressman_paul_gillmor_dies.html

Under Ohio law, Strickland must call a special election to replace Gillmor. No date has yet been set. http://www.chroniclet.com/2007/09/08/gillmor-died-from-fall-injuries/

Procedure for filling Gillmor’s vacant seat

A spokesman for Gov. Ted Strickland offered information about how U.S. Rep. Paul Gillmor’s seat would be filled.

Gillmor, R-Tiffin, died unexpectedly earlier today. He was representative from Ohio’s 5th Congressional District, which includes Seneca County.

Strickland would call a special election to fill the open seat. He would send a writ of election to the Wood County Board of Elections to call the election, because Wood County is the most populous county in the 5th district. The date of the special election would be at the discretion of the governor.

6. Robin Weirauch will run again
She narrowed the gap on Gillmor despite an underfunded campaign in '04 & '06.
