Teen Claims Man Was Already Dead At Time Of Crash

WHITEHALL, Ohio -- A local teenager is trying to clear her name after being connected to a fatal hit-and-run crash.

The suspect spoke exclusively to NBC 4's Lauren Diedrich about the moments that changed her life.

During the early morning hours on Sunday, a man was hit while riding his bicycle on East Main Street near the Interstate 270 bridge on Columbus' east side.

Tina Maharath, 16, was behind the wheel of the vehicle that hit him. But Maharath claims the man, 32-year-old Andres Gonzalez, had already been hit and killed.

"At first, I didn't want to tell the truth about what happened if someone else had already hit and killed him, which is what happened," she said.

"I was on my way home from hanging out with friends and I hit something. So I looked in the rearview mirror and I noticed it was a guy," she said.

It says a man was hit, the story didn't say by who.

Then the girl, Tina says he had already been hit. She does not claim he was riding the bicycle when she hit him.
I read this as she drove over him after someone else hit him and knocked him down.

Being a father of X-teenage girls, I believe the girl.

Panicked or not, there was another human being in serious trouble and in need of medical attention.

They will get his clothing and his bike and match the paint. She still left the scene of an accident and as the parents of one teen aged girl, her ass better not drive away. She didn't know he was dead but by nothing doing a damn thing the victims odd went up that he would perish.

How much experience do they have with consequences in the heat of bad situations? Usually not a whole lot. I raised 2 girls mostly by my self, so I have some experience to fall back on. I don't think Tina was the first person to hit the biker. Yeah, she should have stopped. But Tina is still a child, still growing up. She will know better if there is a next time.

has happened and they are getting blamed is that they rat out the real culprit in the proverbial heartbeat. They don't say they're afraid to say that someone else did it.
