1. I'm checking on this, but it sounds like people are engaging in mindless speculation
D Party focus needs to be on recruiting qualified and informed local candidates

2. So, the word is out there, but what does that mean?
Frankly, there has been so much baiting on Democratic Underground lately, I think it's hard to tell where these types of bits of information have originated from. Did the news originate from Rovarian types looking to discredit Strickland by linking him with HRC, and, in reverse, further lather up anti-liberal sentiment against Mrs. Clinton because Strickland speaks a liberal agenda. Did someone in the HRC camp start dropping Mr. Strickland's name, in hopes of either diverting attention from other candidates and/or to create the "insider" aura (it's interesting to me that Richardson is the top campaign fund raiser in Ohio...) Is Chris Redfern trying once again to gain more national stature. This is all politics and perception warping games, nothing to do with real issues or real people. Strickland's ability to get things done is severely limited by the state of the budget. Someone on his staff or campaign could be promoting the idea, all the while all of us need to be keeping our eyes on the real issues and real people being hurt by sub-prime lending, energy de-regulation, inadequate health care solutions, etc., etc. Why do we tune out on issues and get so wrapped up in bull shit. It's nothing new under the sun, I just get sick of it every time, and it's earlier than ever (again).

4. Im not baiting anybody....
I placed this clearly as a rumor and not as an insider tip...

The people I was with were from my old days as the treasurer of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party...

I don't think this speculation would divert any attention from the main issues that aren't already being swept aside by the endless stream of whose winning now, who got dissed, who got a haircut, etc, etc, etc...

6. I prefer him as our Governor since I'm selfish!
We really need him here in Ohio.....but, I'd support Ted Strickland if he wanted to give Karl Rove colonic and I'd help!

I'll say this, at the Dem's State Dinner last month...they, Senator Clinton and Governor Strickland were very chummy and bonding along with Sherrod Brown, his wife John Glenn and his wife and Ohio's First lady Francis Strickland. One could feel the friendship and power glow illuminating from that table.

I was at the table 10 feet from them all night.....This little fly notices these things; Nursing Perks got me a great table. :hide:

sure of himself, and said that it was a done deal should HRC be the nominee.

15. he told a story once in front of about 2000 people how he got pulled over by the State Patrol
and tried to tell them "who he was" and why they couldn't possibly give him a ticket.

And he thought he was being funny.

I never liked him after that, plus he continues to think he is top-dog, on so many levels.

I would have never handed this guy second-in-charge. It should have been Eric Fingerhut.

16. Eric is doing great work over as the Chancelor of Higher Education
I think that is his title...

But they are clamping down on all those shady "colleges" that rip off people for thousands of dollars and then saddle the poor schmo's with tens of thousands in Student Loans...

18. It all goes back to Lee Fisher anyway...
They had to promise Fingerhut something to get him out of the race...

He didn't even have enough signature and they still bent over backward for him...

Boy are they such the great strategists...

24. At the time, I was under the impression they just squeezed Fingerhut out
I doubt that they promised him anything, and they made sure Fisher was their meal ticket before Fingerhut could get his fundraising operation into motion. Fingerhut is not the best fundraiser from what I hear anyway.

20. The dynamics of the primary season have yet to play out. If the election were

TODAY, and Hilary WAS the nominee, then from what I have heard, and continue to hear, Strickland is at the top of the short list.

Regarding Eric, and the fine job he is doing....once again he is the victim of his own values, side stepping political gamesmen ship.
Only the insiders know about the job he is doing. The average man on the street has no idea.

Fisher and Strickland bonded together very early in the gubernatorial race, and Eric was pushed aside very early as well, by the golden boy of the party, Redfern.

My sister and brother-in-law are Michigan Dem party officials and the Michigan party machine is awsome. Their organization is very well run, and they are able to provide the feet on the ground with terrific, up to date, resources. Michigan Dem's PAY for their own primary held by caucus, not the state. This means that the Dem's in Michigan have control over the date of their primary and because they are so well organized, they can turn on dime and adjust to the prevailing political winds.

From what I have been told, f their caucus was held today, it is not likely that Hillary would win in Michigan.

So with Fisher drooling for the top spot, I predict that the Hillary machine in Ohio will be working overtime, with lots of help from Redfern and company.

But I have to tell you, fellow Ohio Forum DU'ers, I don't smell a lot of support for her from my end of the county (Cuyahoga). For sure, i am not in her camp.

What say you fine sages this beautiful August morning?

21. HC doesn't have much support in Tuscarawas
I know only one person who is a strong Hillary supporter. Having her on the ticket would be similar to having another gay marriage issue on the ballot. She would draw voters around here. However, they would all vote against her.

Anyway, this is a game of perceptions. Anything the Hillary camp can do or say, or stand by and let others do and say that make it look like she is the nominee apparent, they are going to support.

19. Heard a similar rumor-- substitute Brown
I have heard the same rumor involving Brown popping up on VP short lists already. Being the nosy person that I am, I asked Connie Schultz (aka Mrs. Brown) at a book signing. She was vague enough to let me know that there is gossip floating around. To paraphrase, "You can't be a good Senator if you have your eye on another job. However, my husband would always be willing to support his country and the Party in any capacity."

I agree with you that putting someone from OH in that slot would be a great idea. In 2004 there wasn't a viable option, but this time we have a couple excellent choices.

26. I call Bullshit
Geez, people! Strickland hasn't even served a full year as Governor of Ohio yet. The man hasn't even had a chance to prove himself. I could see if this were halfway through his second term, and he had a record established, but the confetti has barely settled from his inaguration.

This is nothing more than the usual, asinine speculation by the media. Give it a rest.
