CONTACT THE CONGRESSIONAL ETHICS COMMITTEE (5 Dems, 5 Republicans) TO DEMAND THAT THEY VOTE FOR A FULL INVESTIGATION OF THE ETHICS COMPLAINT AGAINST TOM DELAY AT THIER SEPT. 20, 2004 MEETING.

The complaint covers three areas:

1) DeLay's soliciting a bribe from Westar Energy in return for an amendment to the energy bill that would have resulted in millions of dollars in savings for the company;

2) DeLay's use of his PAC, Texans for a Republican Majority to launder corporate money, converting such funds into hard dollars that were donated directly to candidates for the Texas State Legislature; and

3) DeLay's use of the Federal Aviation Administration to track down a plane carrying Texas legislators who had left the State to avoid voting on DeLay's partisan redistricting plan.

I find it a waste of my time.... I applaude the effort but.....the message will fall on deaf ears.

2. Any chance of getting wider press coverage for it then?

The Willoughby (Ohio) Herald-Tribune did a piece about it. Have you seen any other press about it? OH folks can write LTE's to keep it alive.

LaTourette may not "bite the hand," but he does have one gracious way to get out of this: disqualify himself from the investigation.

The Committee's own rules state:

(e) A member of the Committee may disqualify himself from participating in any investigation of the conduct of a Member...upon the submission in writing and under oath of an affidavit of disqualification stating that the member cannot render an impartial and unbiased decision.

Maybe you Ohio Dems can pressure him to disqualify himself, instead of outright asking him to launch the investigation.

Even if the investigation itself never happens, enough noise about this might sway a voter or two in TX-22. Trust me there are MANY undecideds there, people who are going to vote against an R for the first time in their blessed lives, because of the OBVIOUS corruption this man embodies. Thanks!

3. Don't enable DeLay - how long does it take to send an e-mail/fax?

4. Anybody know an easy way to find the Reps.' email addresses.

All I get is a filter to keep me out if I'm not a constituent. These investigations and these crimes go way beyond local politics. I could swear I used to have a kind of "activist's shortcut" to email addresses for Senators and Representatives. Anybody got a suggestion?

I recommend a fax, and include a couple of the more interesting pages from the ethics complaint to demonstrate that you have read it.
