Hey Hey Ney, Buh Bye!
C'ya scumbag - looks like you're quitting right before the indictments come in!

Good riddance, and this is a seat the Dems can pick up.

You and your ilk RUINED this state..ruined it..you profiteered on the backs of the working poor. May you rot in the hell of my making.

1. But, but, but - he's thinking of his faaaaaaaaamily
What a crock. He quit because the republicans told him to get out. He can't raise any money; and they are not going to give him any.

2. OH State Sen. Joy Padgett to take Ney's place
AP at the LA Times
Rep. Bob Ney Won't Seek Re-Election

Earlier Monday, Ohio state Sen. Joy Padgett told The Associated Press that Ney called her Saturday and asked the fellow Republican to run in his place, saying defending himself has been a strain on his family.

HOLD ON A MINUTE! Is Ney trying to pull a variation of Delay's move to drop out?
(fyi Texas Dems took Delay to court & the 5th Circuit Appeals Court said Delay must run --- see USA Today for details)

What does the ORC say about this? Ney can't just PICK his own replacement on the ballot, can he?

6. I believe. Ohio Law states that anyone can step out of the race
up until a certain time...

Then, the party can choose the person to replace them...

7. Actually, if the same thing applies as it does locally
if there are less than 2 years, if it is a partisan race, the person can step down, and the party can appoint someone. Ney can stay on the job, and if the new person can get enough signatures to put them on the ballot they can run...the EXCEPTION being...

If he went through a primary, then that is not the case. He would have to run...call it the Delay factor. If he resigns in lets say January, then there would have to be a special election to fill the seat.

9. If Ney Resigned now, they would have to have an election...
Because it is more than 90 days out....

Also, the window for the party appointing a new candidate is 90 days out, I believe...

We faced this in Cuyahoga County when a complete unknown won the republican primary to run against Jimmy Dimora for county commissioner...

We worried that the GOP would force the winner of the primary out and then replace him with a stronger candidate...

I believe the deadline for that was 90 days out as well...

10. Yes, it looks like the Party
can just appoint someone as long as it is 76 days before the general.

§ 3513.31. Withdrawal of candidate nominated in primary election or by petition prior to general election; election for unexpired term.

(A) If a person nominated in a primary election as a candidate for election at the next general election, whose candidacy is to be submitted to the electors of the entire state, withdraws as that candidate or is disqualified as that candidate under section 3513.052 <3513.05.2> of the Revised Code, the vacancy in the party nomination so created may be filled by the state central committee of the major political party that made the nomination at the primary election, if the committee's chairperson and secretary certify the name of the person selected to fill the vacancy by the time specified in this division, at a meeting called for that purpose. The meeting shall be called by the chairperson of that committee, who shall give each member of the committee at least two days' notice of the time, place, and purpose of the meeting. If a majority of the members of the committee are present at the meeting, a majority of those present may select a person to fill the vacancy. The chairperson and secretary of the meeting shall certify in writing and under oath to the secretary of state, not later than the seventy-sixth day before the day of the general election, the name of the person selected to fill the vacancy. The certification must be accompanied by the written acceptance of the nomination by the person whose name is certified. A vacancy that may be filled by an intermediate or minor political party shall be filled in accordance with the party's rules by authorized officials of the party. Certification must be made as in the manner provided for a major political party.

11. you are so f'g smart.
I was thinking the same thing, but some days I just think I am losing it.

They'll just fund-raise the hell out of the next "candidate." How convenient.

Well, except, the only thing I still can't understand is why it was released Monday morning news instead of last news cycle Friday. Unless something really really bad happened Friday nite.

Will have to call my (R) mom who lives in that "District."

12. Yeah, it will probably be an all out sprint
to pour money to Joy.
It looks like she comes from the Rovian school of political campaigns too.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_Anderson

Look at how she tried to say a former hostage for 6+ years during the Lebanese civil war and former Marine combat journalist during Vietnam would be "soft on terror" (whatever the fuck that means...) as opposed to her. (former teacher and State Rep) - nothing against teachers or our local elected officials... unless they try to pretend that their credentials to fight terrorism dwarf those of someone who has seen combat and has himself been a victim of terrorism.

This current crop of Republicans is truly repulsive. They care about nothing but their own self-serving, back-scratching, pay-to-play circles of influence. Ohio deserves better, our Nation deserves better, hell, even our fellow "average-guy" republican voters deserve better.

8. So glad to see him go
Let's hope Debra Pryce is next.

Has anyone heard any predictions (a la Charlie Cook etc.) about how this will affect the race?

Here is a statement from Zack Space's campaign:
