Polls show Petro's early, holy TV ads paying off
http://www.cleveland.com/search/index.ssf?/base/news/1134466638254751.xml?nohio&coll=2

Columbus -A new poll shows that Jim Petro's unusually early - and unusually large - TV campaign has paid off.

Although earlier polls showed him trailing his two rivals for next year's Republican nomination for governor, the latest survey - paid for by the Petro campaign - shows the attorney general running a close second to Secretary of State Ken Blackwell...

The poll also offered some insights into the GOP primary voters: 53 percent of those surveyed said they go to church once a week or more and 51 percent consider themselves to be "strongly pro-life."

Montgomery supports abortion rights; Petro and Blackwell do not...

Both Blackwell and Montgomery have been highlighting Petro's past support for abortion rights and gun control - even though he now opposes abortion and received the endorsement of the National Rifle Association when he ran for attorney general.

2. "Temporary spike"

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

***
"Blackwell acknowledged yesterday that what Petro’s ads have done "is buy the party a primary," adding that the poll has no bearing on his plans to seek the GOP gubernatorial nomination May 2.
***
"Mark R. Weaver, Montgomery’s campaign spokesman, said Petro’s poll shows "false momentum," and represents a "temporary spike that will flatten out in days."

In the absence of competing TV ads from Montgomery and Blackwell, Petro has "reached his high-water mark and now has nowhere to go but down," Weaver said.
***
"Recent events have shown that this is a two-way race between Jim Petro the liberal and Jim Petro the conservative," Weaver said."

3. Uh Oh!
Both Blackwell and Montgomery have been highlighting Petro's past support for abortion rights and gun control - even though he now opposes abortion and received the endorsement of the National Rifle Association when he ran for attorney general.

Sounds like "flip-flopping" to me

5. The article does not say who paid for the poll
"Conducted Dec. 6-7 by Public Opinion Strategies" thanks for the warning. Is this what they call "manufacturing consent"

6. Oh my Lord. I just saw my first Petro ad and it turned me off him for life
All that stuff going on and on about his religious values, his pro-life stance, his belief that marriage is a holy sacred bond between a man and a woman...I practically had to run to the bathroom to puke.

So, he thinks this is what is going to sell Ohio on him?

I am afraid. I am very afraid. :scared:
