Syndicated liberal talker Ed Schultz is stepping down from his local morning talk show, "News And Views," on Clear Channel KFGO-AM Fargo, N.D., to focus on his national show. His syndicated show is now carried by KFGO-AM from 2-5 p.m. locally, where it replaces "The Jack and Sandy Show," which has been discontinued, according to the Associated Press.

Schultz’ s show is a frequent addition to the Air America line-up at CC stations nationwide.

KFGO-AM is searching for Schultz's replacement on the local morning show.

1. Keep away from burnout
This is a smart move by Ed. I was a frequent listener to News and Views online over the past few months. Ignoring their crappy streaming subcontractor, Ed did a decent job. Yet you could tell his mind was elsewhere. It was not as much on local/regional day to day issues as it was on trying to pull his national politics show into most of News and View's 2 1/2 hours.

I hope Clear Channel does not fill Ed's spot with some other right wing talker (like the one who subs for him, the name excapes me now). It would be better if KFGO puts a middle of the road to left-leaning talker opposite Fourm Communication's Scott Hennen on WDAY and not have nothing but right wing talk all morning long on North Dakota/Western MN/Eastern South Dakota radio.

I will try to keep up on News and Views as long as they stream it. I want to see how Clear Channel handles the host replacement.

2. Ed's goodbye
to his loyal KFGO listeners on News and Views.

Thank you....
It was almost nine years ago when Bruce Thom and I had lunch. He wanted me to work for him and I was screaming inside to go to work for KFGO. I couldn't believe I was doing a deal that would take me away from WDAY radio and TV. I was shocked at all the coverage it got at the time. I told Thom I wanted a long term deal. Ten years with a management position and he had to double my earnings. He did all of that.
I told him that News and Views would be number one for as long as I hosted the show and KFGO would never lose the top ranking in the market. I knew I was walking into a station with top talent and I thought I could add to the staff. It all worked out.
With that, I owe the loyal listening folks of KFGO a big thank you for their support and patience over the years. I realize your not a good talk show host if everybody likes you. That goes with the job. Had it not been for the day to day faithful folks who tuned into News and Views, I would not have the opportunity to attempt the next level. I will never forget that.

No radio show or career lasts forever. The day will come when my microphone will be turned off and Big Eddy will be done. I think I can look anybody in the eye and say I did my best and made my breaks. Who knows what the future holds? I know this, it has been a great ride with KFGO and I owe alot to alot of people especially my wife Wendy.

3. Is this the "regional" show he talks about on the national show?
I doubt there can be a "local show" a "regional show" and a "national show" so I'm assuming they are one and the same.

Ed is fantastic. By far my favorite radio host. =)

The radio show is still on KFGO-AM 790 every morning (without Ed).

Here is the Windows Media Player stream of it from 9-11am CT each morning.

Before he left it I had Ed from 8:30-11am, and 2-4:30p for a few months.
