NDSU/UND: The end of a rivalry
What's your opinion on the NDSU/UND rivalry ending now that NDSU moved to Division I and UND refused to schedule the Bison again???

And BTW, I'm an NDSU student, and I'm also on the Bison football team, so I kind of have an opinionated view on this. I feel that both teams will eventually play again, and that it won't be long, either. I also feel that even though NDSU and UND will play football/basketball games again, that a long as hockey is king at Ralph U, that they won't be moving up to DI. The hockey powers that be wouldn't allow it.

Just my opinion. What's yours???

1. And to think I've been paying attention to Yankees/Red Sox?
How could I have missed the NDSU/UND mess. I feel so ashamed.

2. It sucks because
now there won't be Bison-Sioux games hosted by restaurants for those of us currently living in other states. No matter where I've lived in the past 7 years, there has always been a place within driving distance to go watch the games.

3. I'm moving to ND in about a month...
...I need to verse myself in all this stuff. I'll need small talk for when I run into the Sheriff at the liquor store and such.
I was in ND for a coupla months last Summer. People stare a lot. But the night skies were brilliant...

7. Mott needs more folks like you. That town has been shrinking VERY fast.
Over 1,000 people there in 1990. Now there's less than 800 in Mott.

8. Mott has an excellent restaurant
but I don't remember what it is called, or if it is even still there. Used to stop there when my job at NDSU took me out thatta way.

11. Harvest Moon...maybe?
..otherwise it's the Poolside Drive-in, The bowling alley, a diner that closes early. There's a 'biker bar', Scorpions. It's gotta be Harvest Moon out near the Country Club/Golf course...
I'm gonna start eating Buffalo. It's very lean and requires longer cooking time...I cook. Man kinda food. Soups, stews, chili, etc.
I'm really looking forward to ND. One problem is the lack of radio.
We get two NPR stations. One from Dickinson (ND's fifth largest city!) and one from SD. I may get an antenna....
Anyway...it's all to decide as need be.
I am bringing my espresso machine and hand-crank pasta machine...
I wonder if an espresso cart would make a go in Mott...???

15. Satellite radio.
I wish they had had that when I was growing up in ND. . .that and the internet. Prairie Public Radio is not very good, IMO. Minnesota Public Radio is much better.

16. Hell, we get all our public radio here from Moorhead.
I don't even think Fargo itself has a public radio station. I think we use Moorhead's.

17. Prairie Public Radio
One of the things on my short-list of telling my wife (originally from Carringon) I would move here was all day jazz programing on the NDSU-based station. Of course, the pulled the plug on that a few years later, but it's back in the evenings.

I do listen to MPR for it's new programming a great deal.

9. Yeah....they don't know the half of it...
...I'm way stranger than they can even imagine...

I'm moving because I don't really have to be anywhere in particular to do my business and...well...there's a woman involved.

A chance to own a house outright. I heard Tim Leary say 'turn on, tune in, drop out' but it's taken a few decades to get to the drop out part of the equation.

I've been on the West Coast all my life and I'm really tired of it. Like I said I spent a coupla months there last Summer and after a while something quieted inside me. I calmed down. It was a relief.

Anyway...that's my story and I'm sticking to it...

10. good for you!
ND is a good place if you want to calm down and not feel hurried or don't want to feel like just another face in the crowd. Don't worry about being strange, there are a lot of strange ones there. But N.Dakotans tend to be pretty private.

12. Why can't UND move to D-I
All of the UND community is yelling to NDSU, "Stop growing so fast! Stop expanding scholarships! Slow down, forget the future, and play with us again! MMMMMOOOOOMMMMMMMMMYYYYY!!!!"

13. Especially the research dollars.
Pretty soon, we're gonna be a Carnegie Tier-1 institution in terms of research. Also, out student body growth is outpacing that of UND, and we might catch up in several years.

19. NDSU/SDSU: The beginning of a rivalry?
I think UND will eventually go DI, but until then, SDSU will be the biggest rival for the Bison. Today they're unveiling a border marker that is to be the trophy for the winner of the NDSU/SDSU game.

21. I went to the press conference...
announcing the new trophy and ensuing rivalry. It's already started: SDSU's president (not of the student body, but of the administration) stole one of the NDSU Bison flags as she left. 60-something woman stealing our flag. This is gonna be an awesome rivalry, GAME ON!!!
