Former Republican state legislator (current county commissioner) arrested for prostitution

Former state legislator Coy C. Privette, a Cabarrus County commissioner, prominent local republican and "Christian activist", faces charges of soliciting prostitution. The allegations involve alleged meetings at Rowan County hotel rooms with the same prostitute, dating back several months. Privette also serves as the president of the Christian Action League of North Carolina, which advocates in the General Assembly for Christian groups.

A nice story on this on the Charlotte Observer website, including a picture of the African-American prostitute Mr. Privette allegedly frequented. She was also charged with drug possession. I wonder if Coy did any of that as well?

Privette, a Republican, is president of the Christian Action League, a statewide organization that aims to promote “legislation that is consistent with a Christian worldview,” according to its Web site. He’s been a member of the board of directors and executive committee of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina.

What is it with these family values right-wingers- Freud would call it reaction formation, I suppose. Not only is Coy a staunchly conservative, right wing nut politician, but he is also a retired Baptist preacher. The story I read indicated that he paid the prostitute several times with a check and then reported the checks as stolen - which is what led to the investigation of soliciting in the first place. What a hypocritical idiot!!

3. Statement from the Cabarrus County Democratic Party

The Executive Committee of the Cabarrus County Democratic Party wants to issue the following statement regarding the charges filed against County Commissioner Coy Privette:

"We were understandably shocked to hear of the charges filed against Mr. Privette. Of course, at this point the legal system will need to run its course. This will be a difficult time for Mr. Privette and his family and the people of Cabarrus County. The question now is whether Coy Privette can still effectively represent his constituents and do all the work necessary to address the real challenges of our County while this matter is being resolved."

I used to be a member of a church that is part of the Baptist State Convention.

One of our pastors had to leave, was having an affair with his assistant or something.
(He was one of my favorite pastors).

Anyway, it seems the more conservative they pretend to be, the weirder they are.
