Hey hey.. We're moving to Winston-Salem end of the Month.. !!!!
my wife got a job there and they are buying our house here and are moving us to Winston-Salem.. storing our stuff till we get a house there.

we just shut the door and walk away.. no problems..and we wont look back!!!!:woohoo:

i cant tell you how happy we are..!! this is the worst place i have ever been.. and i have been around.. it is so threatening here if you mention anything intellectual, or talk about anything but church related subjects.. i have had a 3 different jobs here and they have all been abysmal inhumanly brutal jobs. i am way too old for this stuff.

i plan to be active at the Democratic Party there. hope to meet some DU'rs there.. see ya. :hi:

1. Well, let me be the first to welcome you to NC!

Here is the most important thing you will need to know: BBQ is best when it's cooked Lexington style - pork shoulder only cooked over hickory wood slowly. The "brown" is the crunchy part of the shoulder. Not sure where you are now but sweet tea is the drink of the day and hushpuppies are the side dish du jour. Yum! Our okra is fried and our taters are smashed and we have dressing instead of stuffing. Double yum!!

It's a beautiful state. W-S is a great place to live. You need to plan a trip to one of the NC beaches. They are great.

We have Elizabeth Dole and Richard Burr for senators. The Dems are getting more active than they used to be.

Also, thanks to folks like Kelvin Mace and WillYourVoteBeCounted, we have some of the strictest election reform laws in the country. W00T!

Again, welcome to NC. I hope that you enjoy your stay in NC!!!

2. Welcome to NC!
And I hope you enjoy it here. W-S was the closest city when I was growing up... it's a great town. And while you certainly should visit the beaches, don't forget about the mountains! You'll be much closer to the mountains than the beach. Come on up to the High Country! Where are you moving from?

4. we are moving from West Tennessee, Dyer...about 36 miles north of Jackson
we moved here from El Paso TX, the company outsourced my wifes job 8 months after we got here, knowing they would close but not telling anyone, and closed the plant. Dyer is about 1,200 people, there are 2 or 3 houses for sale on each street now. we really lucked out.. the new company is assuming the mortgage.. :woohoo:

she has been working in Memphis and commuting home weekends.. it has been really miserable for both of us and the dogs.. the cat doesn't care.

i worked for Boeing in TX and built flight control circuit boards for the F22 and Delta3 Rocket.. there is nothing here.. or anywhere nearby other than horrible horrible temp jobs.. one place i worked at 12 hour shifts, NO breaks except for a half hour lunch. I got fired from there for having a Free Tibet bumper sticker on my car... someone told him it was a Buddhist country. he was livid, spit blowing mad.. berated me for at least 10 minutes then threw me out. i really didn't gave a clue what it was all about.. till someone told me later.

it is real backward here.. and the Fundies are right.. there is no evolution.. at least there hasn't been any around here for eon's, the knuckle dragger's around here have proved that.

they told my wife there were some technology jobs around there..

we will move out around the end of the month... it will be great to not have to look back, the house isnt a problem.. we dont even have to pack.. they will store our stuff till we get a house.

7. Welcome to W-S
It's a great town/city. Plenty to do in and around W-S, friendly people, great food, sweet tea, Demon Deacons, Dixie Classic Fair, mountains nearby with nice trout streams, beaches down east, and Demon Deacons! Welcome to Winston.

8. Winston - join the Forsyth Co Democrats here
Welcome to Winston Salem, you should be pretty happy here.

You will be in Forsyth County, and here is the website for the
local party.

They have some really good democrats here, and a great county
party.
http://www.forsythdemocrats.org/

Here is our County Board of Elections
(so you can transfer your voter registration in time before the
Nov race, and help us get rid of Congressman Virginia Foxx)
www.co.forsyth.nc.us/elections/

And hi to the other folks in this forum who live in Winston!

9. Welcome to NC/Winston Salem.
I live in Greensboro (a couple of towns over) but my kids go to school in Winston. I am there every day of the week during the school year. Let me know if you all ever want to meet up with another DUer or two.

We have one Duer running for the school board out there! You will be among friends.

I work in Winston, but I live in Randolph county. We moved here from Texas about six years ago. We really enjoy it here. Your a few hours from the beach and a few from the mountains.

11. Winston-Salem is not considered progressive area of NC--
look to Chapel Hill and Asheville for those honors. BUT--if you have a lot of old furniture that you don't think is worth moving, you are 15 minutes from High Point, which is the east coast mecca for furniture.

You are nicely positioned between mountains and coast. Welcome to NC!

12. Welcome!
I've always liked W-S. You'll be in a good spot to go to the mountains or the beach and it seems like a nice town.
We'rea little over an hour east of you in Chapel Hill - come see us sometime!
:hi:
