Edited on Tue Jun-27-06 09:49 PM by sam sarrha
and will give her 2 week notice monday, usually the company fires them when they give notice, but since nearly all the people have quit or given notice they will keep her for the 2 weeks, she does 57% of the work on a 7 person team. we both have the same work ethic, ..at Boeing i did 2.6 times more work that anyone else and did all the Rework.. fixed all the boards that failed or that everybody else messed up... and the special projects no one else in the Boeing company could do, they sent stuff from Seattle and La... people making 4X what i was at $8.20 an hour, and they wrote off $58 an hour on income taxes for me to do it. el paso was their only non union shop.. that is why they basically went out of business.. i hear there are some technical industries there, there is nothing of any sort here..

my wife said her company treats them like dogs, and and the pay sucks. one girl quit and her supervisor showed up at her house while the movers were taking stuff out of the house.. and offered her a pitiful raise.. it didn't work out..

i am so happy to get out of here..

i will go with her to find a house so we can move our stuff outa here.. then i have to come back and get this one ready to sell.. and get it packed up to move. i already have my drums packed

i have had to be a closet Buddhist here to keep from being crucified on the side of my house.. i figure there will be a meditation group nearby.. i really miss the Chenrezig Center we had in El Paso. if i have to drive to Greensboro it will be worth the trip.

sorry to ramble so.. i am just so happy to get out of this religious tribal hell

:woohoo: :woohoo:  :woohoo:

4. I hope the change of scene perks you right up.
The future will be brighter for you and your family in greener climes. Bright sunshine depresses the hell out of me--sort of like SAD in reverse. Maybe you suffer from the same condition...

6. i suffer from talking to people who only communicate in Bible Verses, if
try to have a conversation they lean into you about a foot from your face and stare into your eyes with a grim look on their face... they think they can see if Satan is ruling your soul by looking in your eyes..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.. i look at the ground and keep my mouth shut.. dont make eye contact.!!

7. I take a more aggressive track
but I warn them first with the disclaimer, "I cannot talk to anyone of any religion without offending them." If they still want to talk about it, I laugh and tell them I'm an atheist. If they still want to talk about it, I demand equal time and dibbs on "me first." I've had Jehovah's Witnesses run away from my door crossing themselve, so it definitely works on strangers. Works on acquaintences, too. Once we've discussed religion, few care to revisit the subject with me. the second time I don't even warn them about the possibility of being offended.

3. welcome sam and ms. sarrha!
get ready to feel rain, we've had a good share here in NC in the last week and more (or less) expected the next week.

Are you coming to the west or east side of the state?

5. Winston-Salem, where is a good place to look for a house, i hear the east
side of town is interisting.. my wife and i are 57, old hippies, artistic, i am building a recumbant bicycle.. and a solar powered/electric/gas electric hybred tamdem bicycle with side car for the dogs.. we are Buddhists and into recycling and gardening. we are quiet and dont really get out much.. but that could be because of this rural tribal religious fundamentalist, anti-intelectual black hole here in west Tennessee.

we are both really excited about moning there, and i am from Washington State, i am used to the rain.

10. i lived in W-S in the 80's
west on 421, at 555 Alpine Dr. It was a unique house owned by one of the Reynolds clan (as in RJ Reynolds). It was a 'party house' i understand of the 'oulaw' Reynolds brother, and my ex and i were really suprised at what we rented. It was turned over to us by a friend of a friend, we took it sight unseen, and when we were driving down the road to find the house we were initially disappointed with the neighborhood...but then we see a patch of woods all of a sudden in the midst of a 'suburb' of box houses and the mailbox at the end of a long drive. Took it and ended up at a beautiful house stuck in the middle of a few acres of woods, completely alone and isolated from everyone else. We lived there almost 5 years, both of my daughters were born there. House had 2 bdrms, vaulted ceilings, woodstove heat, lot's of windows. The only reason i'm describing it to you is that it might be worth driving by there and seeing if it's potentially up for rent. There's probably a 56 DeSoto still parked in the drive :)

otherwise, the eastern area: had some good friends in the McCleansville area, more country setting (of course that was then, and alot could have changed).

good luck house hunting!

9. saw in your earlier post
that you're a "Mad Scientist" - as in the workshops?

There is a HUGE homeschooling community in NC. Unfortunately, most of them are fundies - but - they still like the Mad Science workshops (as long as you don't mention evolution and don't dis "god".)

I'm not in the W-S area, but I'm sure they have some kind of hs (homeschool) bookstore there or Greensboro where they have space for you to offer "enrichment" classes.

Welcome to NC.

You're moving here and I'm moving on . . . :( Hubby got a job in Wisconsin and we're due to move the end of July.

The company I work for is doing everything they can to get rid of the people who know what
they're doing, and replacing them with "fine upstanding Christian" Bush supporters.
They're losing business contracts left and right and there will be a big layoff in September.
The plant manager is freaking out about the degradation of quality, and that degradation
will sink us, but I guess he has his orders from the corporate masters to get rid of
Americans and replace them with Bushbots.
The US economy is headed straight down imo.

13. Congrats, welcome - It is nice here
You will like it here.

Lots of great houses, some old interesting neighborhoods,
plenty of modern McMansions in new neighborhoods,
lots of places with the neighborhood pools,

or just old dead end streets like I live on.

Love my place.

Then there is the more country like setting on the exterior.

If you don't move directly into Winston, check to make sure
that your potential new home isn't being "annexed" into the city.

Unless you don't mind that.

Tons of places to live.

You won't get lonely, lots of people with diff interests.

Congrats to your wife.
