NY state pols charged in influence-peddling case

NEW YORK (AP) - A state senator and assemblyman from New York City are among eight people charged in a federal influence-peddling case.

A criminal complaint names Sen. Carl Kruger and Assemblyman William Boyland Jr., both Brooklyn Democrats.

Charges in the complaint include conspiracy and money laundering. The complaint alleges that Kruger "received a stream of bribes totaling at least $1 million" and pushed legislation benefiting a health care network. It says he directed state money to a lobbyist, who is also charged.

Kruger's attorney had no immediate comment. Boyland did not immediately return a request for comment left with his staff.

1. It feels like all of a sudden I'm seeing more and more
Dems being investigated for all types of things anymore. Is it my imagination or is there an effort being made to field charges (whether true or not)for political gains? One of our Representatives speaks out in Congress and all of a sudden there is a charge being investigated about him (something about a stripper)here in WI. It's not feeling right.

2. This is definitely not a politically motivated charge.
From what I've heard from Dems on the inside who I trust, Kruger is the winner of the "Most corrupt man in Albany" title, in an INCREDIBLY crowded field.

4. Kruger was also one on the "three amigos"...
...who held the Senate Democratic Leadership vote hostage in 2009 for perks and patronage, and then threw support to the Republicans when they thought they could get more.
