Marty Withdraws from the Senate Race
Found this on Daily KOS:

Today I am announcing that I will not seek the seat for U.S. Senate.

Traveling my home state over the past several weeks, I have been honored to spend time with my fellow New Mexicans to talk about the issues and challenges facing our state.

While I deeply appreciate all the support I have received, it has become very clear to me that Democrats should not be divided in the upcoming election. It is crucial to the future of New Mexico and this country that a Democrat become the next U.S. Senator. A hotly contested primary, as this one certainly could be, would likely dramatically weaken the Democratic nominee and place the general election in jeopardy.

The rest is at http://www.DailyKos.com/story/2007/12/7/18943/4215/731/419300

What did the Democratic Party of NM do to push Marty out of the race? Did they promise to put all their money on Udall's campaign? Did they promise to support him elsewhere? Does he really think he'll defeat Diane Denish for the governor's seat? She really does deserve to win since she has been acting governor for much of Bill's term.

2. Rather surprising, indeed, that he withdrew so quickly.
And I wondered why too. But thank goodness he did! I'm glad to see a politician actually acting in the best interests of his party and his state. Too bad there's not more of that in Washington, too. It'll be interesting to see what he does next.

3. he didn't get a very warm reception here in Eddy county
he had some tough questions thrown at him and you could tell the crowd of about 40 people weren't getting any warm and fuzzies

4. One would like to think that Martín was dropping out for the good of the party!
BUT, I've become so cynical about politicians, my first reaction is to wonder just what is the real reason he is dropping out. Maybe he realized, just as DailyKos pointed out, that running against Tom Udall would mean the end of his career. I doubt he will run for Heather Wilson's old seat, but if he does, he will be running against Martin Heinrich. They've battled over issues here in Albuquerque before. Martin Heinrich was the president of the City Council. Thank goodness our City Council didn't just kowtow to the Mayor. They understood the concept of checks and balances, unlike our present U.S. Congress.

5. Seems to me, I predicted not long ago that Marty would never withdraw
Very happy that I was wrong. Guess he saw the handwriting(poll numbers ) on the wall. But still, could have let his ego drive him forward, and he chose not to. And didn't just withdraw, but strongly urged everyone to throw their full support behind Udall.

6. My husband's first thought was . . .
I wonder what have on Marty to get him to bow out? <hee hee> I can't help but wonder if the party didn't put some pressure on him.
