He is retiring!
Domenici is finally retiring. His plan was to have Horrible Heather take his place. I wonder if she is planning on running in his place, and if we have a good democratic candidate running against her, it should be easy to defeat her. I wonder if Udall is interested in the Senate? I was hoping sneaky pete would drop dead while Bill Richardson was in office so Bill could appoint a Dem. to the position.

2. Looks like Heather will run ...
and it also looks like Mayor Marty is going to make a run at it as well...

3.  . . . but, of course!
She is Domenici's chosen one to follow! She also is a carpet bagger, and could care less about New Méxicans or New México. She takes money from Blackwater, Halliburton and all the drug companies, so we can take a good guess who she really represents.

I'm not so keen on Marty Chávez, whom I'm sure is a distance cousin of half of Hispanic Alburquerque, including myself. It will be interesting to see what comes of this. I hope we can get it right for a change, and not have to have Heather elected. History has shown us that she isn't above playing dirty tricks.

4. Udall would be the best choice...
...but he now has enough seniority in the house that he has apparently decided not to fill the senate seat. Marty would be better than Heather but that's not saying much.

5. Marty is hard to pigeonhole
on some things he seems pretty progressive, and in some ways he seems corporate/DLC all the way. I do know he was a Dean supporter before there was any sort of bandwagon. I still hope Udall can be persuaded, but if Marty's the strongest candidate, then I'll be behind him all the way, even though I strongly suspect he'd be similar, sometimes, to the afraid to forcefully stand up to the republiklans type of D.C. Dem we're all so frustrated with. Still light years better than that sleazy, slippery Wilson...

6. Marty . . .
seems to me like an opportunist who has desperately wanted to be a part of the big going ons in politics. Now remember, he may be a distant cousin of mine, but no matter, after he said "philosophically, he's so far to the left" in reference to Udall, I'd say he'll say anything to get elected. I too will support him if I have to, but Udall has recently said he is being called and received so many letters begging him to run, so he is thinking. He also said he is waiting to find out if Billy is going to run. He doesn't want to drop his hat in the ring until he is sure Bill isn't going to run. Now we need to write Bill and tell him we don't want to lose him as our governor. ;-)

7. hadn't heard Marty say that about Udall
but that's a goddam shame if he did, not to mention ridiculous. As you know, C-Gata, Marty and I go way back, before he went into politics, so I don't have a totally unbiased view...I really want to like him politically but yeah, he's disappointed me more often than not. But also, we've got a great opportunity to kick Heather out of congress and if Marty's her opponent then hopefully even progressives who don't trust him further than they can throw him will still vote for him instead of sitting it out. And he really was, curiously enough, an early Dean supporter...

8. Here's a link!
Just in case you don't know of this blog, here is the link where I read this story on. The Blogger is from Taos, but he keeps track of politics in New Mexico, plus he was a Dean supporter. I always read the blog to keep up with New Mexico news, plus I love his daily photo feed. It makes me miss living in Northern New Mexico.
